S/P-DIF setup with hardware DAW into soundcard

Hey folks, I'm new around here so I'm not sure if this is the correct forum section to ask my question.

Currently I am setting up a computer to work on my musical projects. The computer is running AV-Linux (6.02 I think) and I have a soundblaster platinum live installed. I also have a hard disk recorder a Yamaha AW4416 which is an awesome recording device in itself but I am trying to get it to send the S/P-DIF signal to the computer.

After much messing around yestereday I decided to try and hook up my guitar processor (GNX2) to send digital signal to the sound card, plugged it in and the signal was immediately available after a bit of tweaking with the Alsa Mixer. This in itself is exciting but I need to configure the hardware recorder to do the same.

So far I know that the guitar processor is 44.1k and 24bit if that helps but that's all I know about it.

I'm looking for any advice at all, since I am new to this and I have done my obligatory google searches before posting, my guess is some kind of word clock or format thingy is the problem, I have certainly proved that the soundcard is working and I have been able to send digital signal out of the computer and capture in the hard disk recorder. So I have it working one way just not the other.

I'm reaching out to the community for ideas on what to check tweak etc. perhaps there is a midnight primal ritual that I need to perform? :)

I have the manuals to the hard disk recorder (for what it's worth, they are crappy), and so far I am focused on capture within Renoise which doesn't require JACK to be started.

Just an update, I am now using Jack and I set the resolution to 48k which is the same as the sound card and everything is working perfectly now.

Thanks.
