Cannot get sound through external speakers or headphone

Hello
I have this problem , only sound is coming is from laptop speakers and i changed setup input output to headphones or external speakers
But there is always sound coming from laptop speakers.
It worked before but i uninstalled ubuntu and installed windows 8 but now i am back to ubuntu from yesterday,
do i need to install some plugins via command line or what?
I have ubuntu 14.04 installed
PS its with jack/alsa and qtractor
