Opening several programs in different desktops

I don't really know where to put my question, but since using KXStudio I will post it here.

I like to organize my programs by placing them in different desktops.
Now I do this by hand. After all my programs are opened then I move some to another desktop (when using non-session-manager) or I open my programs one-by-one and changes to the according desktop before opening them.

Is there a command line option to open a program in a specific desktop?
Is it possible to do this when opening a session (p.a. when using NSM)?

Try wmctrl or a window manager that can do this. I use openbox myself which is quite easy to configure wrt window placement.

In tiling window managers it's easy to do that. It's one of the reasons I use dwm.

You do have to resign some automagical desktop environments features though.

Cheers!
