Well, I succeeded to make a midi track with qwerty midi keyboard, and get a sound. I could not get the sound quality or performance / expression I did hear in a song. If Bitwig or Ableton Live has some kind of curve tool, a la Absynth (never tested, though), then I really should have continued the learning.

Why don't you use a cheap midi keyboard? Up to 61 velocity-sensitive keys are availabe for less than 200 €. 49 keys are cheaper.
