Here is a program I am working on right now that will help to create screencasts, tutorials and commentary videos much more easy. Live or recorded!
Here is a youtube video showing the main features:

Wow!
Excellent work, very useful additions to the current limitations of screen capture under Linux, Will look forward to the release!

This looks amazing. Something many of us have been looing for as well.
Few questions:
When can we start looking for a release?
How is it on system resources when recording?
Any chance you can provide a few screenshots of the user interface?
Great work.

Another thumbs up here!

I'd really like to do some video demos and it's precisely the post production editing that I'm just too lazy to hurdle over. Videos are really a great way to whet people's appetites for linux, esp. through Youtube, and I'd probably be more apt to make some videos if the process was a bit quicker.
I'm excited to try out the upcoming release!

Just to inform you. I thought of many useful applications and usecases and therefore features for this tool. But it is not a project without an end. A 1.0 release with subsequent bugfix and small feature additions is a finite piece of work and not a lifetime commitment (like my other software)
At the same time: I am very near of getting into a "Spiral of debt". That is my financial situation was not good in the last year(s) and it is of decreasing quality.
Thats why I decided to make this tool commercial. Very affordable (25€ for a lifetime license), but commercial. If you want to get a substantial discount (over 25 percent off) you can wait for the Indiegogo campaign which will be used to decide if I do this tool at all or better spend my time washing other peoples cars or doing their garden
Do you hate the idea of commercial linux software or would you be willing to support such a model? Maybe even by pleding an Indiegogo campaign and getting more valuie in return (than by just buying a finished tool when it is done)?

I have bought plenty of Linux software, and if this performs at all as well as it seems, I would happily part with my money for it.
Linux screencasting is the biggest headache I have encountered.

I'm a happy Pianoteq customer. 25 euro? That's not even funny. I'd willingly pay 50 to 100 euro for an LV2 sampler
with UI that would read most available sample libraries (including SFZ, yes). OTOH, what I
really want is an ecosystem for decent sample libraries -- much like what NI made with Kontakt.

@prokoudine
Well, this is not about the sampler but the screencasting overlay tool.
For the rest of you:
It will be GPL and crossplatform, but it will still be sold.

@NilsGey, ah, so I completely misread you. My bad. Still, I don't mind paying for a good screencasting tool. The money would depend on a feature set, though.

Selling GPL software is perfectly fine. The important thing is software freedom — i.e. that the people who get the software on their machines have the ability to control and use it freely.
That said, I think it is counterproductive to the success of a project if the source is not fully available and inviting collaboration in development. You can respect software freedom without doing any "open source" collaboration, but I don't suggest it.
So I think success is found by both sharing as widely as possible and respecting user freedom. But there's nothing wrong with making a living doing it, whether that's through some sort of sales or donations or otherwise. That doesn't mean it's easy, but it can be done.
