Problems with USB MIDI cable

Hi,

I got myself a cheapo USB MIDI cable from ebay, mainly for playing around, and I have some weird problems.
Besides my computer on Opensuse 12.3, I have a Roland SC-55 sound module and a PC-200 Mk. II keyboard.

MIDI output works perfectly, i.e. playing MIDI files to the SC-55.
When I connect the PC-200 directly to the "In"-cable, nothing happens. No LED flickering and kmidimon doesn't see any packets.
When I connect the PC-200 to the SC-55 MIDI in and the USB MIDI in cable to the SC-55's MIDI thru, the MIDI in LED on the cable is flickering and notes come to the computer, however, also lots of trash. E.g. when I move the volume controller, the computer sees some stray note on/off packets in between.

Connecting the PC-200 directly to the SC-55 also (of course) works without any problems.
