Hey, new here

Post by 420pancakes »

Might as well introduce myself, I grew up on techno and I'm a huge fan of digital music, I messed around with programs like acid, reisin and fruity loops, although I like the interface of a drum machine a lot better, anyways I'm new to linux but it seems a little daunting right now, I'm trying to get the synthesisors to work on Rosegarden, hopefully I'm asking this in the right place, I can't install the files for ALSA I think because I don't have files for python on my computer, it gives me this error message.
python-config: command not found
Unable to determine python libraries! Probably python-config is not
available on this system. Please, use --with-pythonlibs and
--with-pythonincludes options. Python components are disabled in this build.[]
My computer is a medion md 8825 with Realtek ALC883 chipset for the sound, and I'm running ubuntu 12.04 LTS, if anyone could help shed some light on how to get my computer set up to make some beats it would be greatly appreciated

PS Midi doesn't make any sound either, I'm clueless about this aswell.

welcome!

I suggest installing the kxstudio repositories and all the software it comes with, that's generally a pretty solid starting point.

on step 3 it didn't like KDE4, right now it seems to be installing the XFCE package just fine

EDIT: It won't install kxstudio-meta-video because I don't have qdvdauthor, I'm stuck here and I'll probably never figure it out without a little help, using sudo apt-get install doesn't work and I downloaded the files manually and I still don't know what to do.

if you don't plan on doing any video work you don't need to install the video packages

ahh cool, I thought it was for the routing of effects and plugins for some reason, I finished the install and now my computer doesn't have any sound, clicking the sound icon doesn't work, any ideas?

they gave me catia, which won't do a thing for me, the program is there but it has no options or functions, I tried downloading the iso for kxstudio but my computer will not let me burn any discs, though it will read disks, this is really frustrating, my computer is completly useless right now, I can't get it to do much of anything. I've been reading help.ubuntu.com trying to figure out how to burn a disk, to no avail.
