linux sampler how-to please

Hello everyone,
I'm pretty new here on linux musician and I searched the topic the best I know how but I'm far more musician than linux user. I am running Mint 15 and I don't know how to install linux sampler. I can install the gui but the engine is not on synaptic package manager. From what I've read its because of some license that LS is not in synaptic. I added KXstudio to the repos in synaptic but I'm not sure what that accomplished because LS is still not found when i search for it on synaptic. I know the LS web site offers resources to compile it but i dont understsnd that process whatsoever. Can someone please help me out here or point me in the right direction? Thanks for reading.

First of all, did you follow the instructions here
http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/Repositories ?
The steps under "Linux Mint Olivia" are actually for Linux Mint Maya (version 13) which is based on Ubuntu 12.04. You shouldn't do those, but if you did, don't worry, you can still fix it. Just tell us how you added the repos.
Also, one good guide on linuxsampler is this one

I did follow those directions on that link to a T including the ones on Olivia that you say I didn't need. I'm still lost though... Thanks for the help.

I recommend anyone who wants to do audio on linux seriously to use a audio-oriented distribution like kxstudio, avlinux, dreamlinux etc which come already optimized for audio work and with many audio programs (like linuxsampler) already installed (and with up-to-date version). Will allow you to start making music with a minimum of fuss. Installing a distro takes only 20 GB. Create other partitions your music files which do not get overwritten in case you want to change distros.

Try this: Open a terminal and type
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get update
apt-cache search linuxsampler
and then copy and paste the output here.

how about:
I'm bothering you with this because linuxsampler is in the kxstudio repos and if everything went fine when you added them, it should be listed in your repos cache...

apt-get update?

it's weird, you have the repos installed, but somehow linuxsampler doesn't show in the cache.
I would delete all the kxstudio-[whatever].list you have in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ and then re add the repos.
Then do apt-get update again and see if it gets better.
