Re: Mbox1 Clicks and Pops (USB AUDIO)
I didnt have much luck successuflly compiling a kernel, tried a few different instructions, the last one failed at the patch compained at not being able to find the patch (no such file) even though i copied and pasted the commands into a terminal
But i did find this
http://carlocapocasa.com/ubuntu-12-04-u ... ic-making/
Deb packages for kernel 3.4
lets hope this works. But it does mention that nvidia drivers are not compatible with the patched kernel.

Re: Mbox1 Clicks and Pops (USB AUDIO)
RT kernel made no change to the clicks im getting during playback..
Re: Mbox1 Clicks and Pops (USB AUDIO)
Going to try a different distro (av linux) if i still have problems i might have to resign to the fact that my machine may be the problem.
It works flawlessly on windows on another machine. I havnt tried it on windows since i refuse to polute my machine with that rubbish.
Maybe i should try giving it a dedicated USB port by adding a pci USB card.

Re: Mbox1 Clicks and Pops (USB AUDIO)
tried AV linux, same issues though not as bad and there using kernel 3.10 pae.
i read something breifly about alsa not setting buffers correctly for USB audio, however doesnt that get set in jack?
there was also something on another site about problems with isochronous devices on ehci USB but was fine on xhci..
seems like this is not just my mbox other hardware is effected too.

Re: Mbox1 Clicks and Pops (USB AUDIO)
An Isochronous Endpoint. This can be up to a maximum of 1023 bytes for a full speed device, and 1024 bytes for a high speed device. As the maximum data payload size is going to effect the bandwidth requirements of the bus, it is wise to specify a conservative payload size with jack.
There’s a lot of real time buffer filling and emptying done, adding too latency issues doing this.
This was some bug that the kernel builders never managed to find a solution, and they are still working on.

Looks like i wont know until the bug is finally fixed in the kernel.Eino wrote:An Isochronous Endpoint. I did try the liquorix kernel posted previously, however it locks up my system a few minutes after logging in. Didnt even get to try the mbox.
As for jacks buffer setting, the clicking and popping ever 30-60 seconds isnt effected by jacks buffer and period size, no matter how large. And there are no x runs.
Anyway, looks like this may be a loosing battle. and either just have to put up with the pops n clicks now and then, or get a different interface.

Would adding a PCI USB card possibly help? Im using the onboard USB ports on my motherboard. its a cheap motherboard so probably not the best. It only has 4 ports + an extra 2 USB 1.1 ports that are on headers and im using them all at the moment.Eino wrote:An Isochronous Endpoint. Argos have a 6 Port PCI card that i could pick up. I kind of need extra ports anyway, so i could use the onboard ones for my keyboard, wireless mouse, external HD, printer and use the card for just the mbox.

If you have USB 2.0 ports available it will help dramatically. Depending on the bus speeds of the motherboard. If the motherboard only has USB 1.1, it may not have the bus speeds required for USB 2. .bazsound wrote: Would adding a PCI USB card possibly help? I had a go at compiling kernel 3.4.86 with the 3.4.84 patch but didnt have much joy. complete system freeze before desktop appears. probably poorly configured.
strange thing though now my 3.11 kernel is booting at the speed it used to after installing the custom built kernel. It used to pause for 5 seconds then the OK messages would zip by, another few second pauses then desktop would apear and it would be usable.
then one day it went back to how it used to be scrolling through thew OK messages, then go black for a few seconds, then the desktop background appeared, some more waiting then it was usuable.
wierd. its probably cut of 5 seconds on my boot time.

Re: Mbox1 Clicks and Pops (USB AUDIO)
This is the system, I use with a custom kernel. My whole boot time is about 5 seconds. But it may be the processor's power, and speed of the drive.
inxi -S
System: Host: antiX1 Kernel: 3.7.0-10.dmz.1-liquorix-amd64 x86_64 (64 bit)
Desktop: IceWM 1.3.7
Distro: antiX-13.2_x64-music Luddite 12 January 2014
This system lacks the eye-candy, but the resources saved goes into sound processing..
BTW, I use the firewire port on my sound card, for my portable grand piano input. I have no latency issues doing this.
I have not seen, any firewire adapters lately, I think almost everyone has gone to usb instead.
I will never give up on my old portable grand piano.
Newer system, with an old sound card, and keyboard.

Re: Mbox1 Clicks and Pops (USB AUDIO)
Im downloading anti-x to give it a shot. I like lightweight. Running LXDE at the moment in kx studio, so i suppose its really lx studio
anyway, ive give that a test out, along with the anti x kernels if still no joy then ill pop out and get a usb card, and if that doesnt work.
I give up on this mbox till i get a new machine.
If it doesnt work after going the dedicated usb card route, then ill just probably end up getting an m-audio fast track. They can be had for around £70.
I think i like the the idea of this antix distro. Ive been wanting to strip back my system, rather than starting with a fully loaded system. Start with a bare bones, then add only what you need. I have so many pkugins that are of no use to me. the list is too big to go through and try them all.
anyway, thanks for the help. I think its time to leave this thread alone as theres really nothing else that could be done i think.

This is my project, the 32bit version has little to be desired, but the 64 bit has everything I use except, the kernel
You can add the kernel via, the smxi script.

I'll give that a try with the custom kernel.
didnt manage to pick up a PCI USB card so havnt tried that yet.
