How to know what device i must select to work with ffado?

Post by Splashman »

This is the restart of the other post trying to engage the focusrite saffire pro 24dsp.
http://linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=11992

Then i discovered a bug what affect any platform because is related with the relationship of the mother board, the pci, and the firewire pci.

The normal expect will find only the devices conected but is listing a serie of firewire empty ports making impossible to ffado to function normally.
the kernel is detecting 31 firewire ports then ffado breaks when connecting to a false one, how we can se doing the lshw only one is different and the other ones are classified by UNCLAIMED

Code: Select all

Code: Select all
    *-firewire:30 NO RECLAMADO
                    descripción: FireWire (IEEE 1394)
                    producto: FW322/323
                    fabricante: LSI Corporation
                    id físico: 1e
                    información del bus: pci@0000:03:1e.0
                    versión: 61
                    anchura: 32 bits
                    reloj: 33MHz
                    capacidades: ohci bus_master cap_list

                    recursos: memoria:feb1d000-feb1dfff

the next one must be the good one.

Code: Select all
    *-firewire:31
                    descripción: FireWire (IEEE 1394)
                    producto: FW322/323

What I'm trying to do is find out the exact number to put here, because I'm not familiar with this
Image
maybe the bug will not affect me. (in windows is the same but there works)

Code: Select all

ls -al /dev/fw*
crw------- 1 root root 251, 0 ene 18 15:32 /dev/fw0
crw-rw----+ 1 root audio 251, 1 ene 18 15:32 /dev/fw1
I think i must add another line here for fw:31

your screenshot is the same as mine (except i have 256 buffer size)
I have no choices in the hardware/device drop down list (because I only have 1 device connected?)

So what happens when you start jack?

Can you connect to a mixer : ~$ ffado-mixer

I have just read your other thread.

lspci on my machine returns only 1 firewire entry:
05:0e.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): VIA Technologies, Inc. VT6306/7/8 [Fire II(M)] IEEE 1394 OHCI Controller (rev c0)

You may need to ask questions to the ffado user list:

someone told me
you're talking about kernel supplied names, which are just going to increment. if you need a specific name for a device, write a udev rule that adds a symlink to the name

I've added the udev rule thanks to Pablo_GNU to redirect the every -firewire ports to fw1 but no difference apreciated, also tried to the oposite way but no luck.
Here is the rule:

Code: Select all

KERNEL=="firewire[0-35", SUBSYSTEM=="firewire-ohci", SUBSYSTEMS=="pci", ATTRS{idVendor}=="11bd", ATTRS{idProduct}=="000e", SYMLINK+="fw1"
Now im trying blacklist the new firewire-* stack but ffado and jack are not working as expected, in ffado-diag is not detecting any change in the firewire stack an jackd is listed no installed .

Code: Select all

ffado-diag
