Anyone feel like hacking a SFZ?

Contains a free drumset with a massive amount of samples.
Plenty of velocity layers and lots of care taken to record every aspect of each instrument.
Desperately needs a good SFZ file.
I've hacked SFZ before but I don't have time to take that on.
Anyone?

Beware. I suspect this is a phishing website. It wants to install an unverified browser add-on. I tried to forego that, and at about 3/4 of the way through its progress bar, it starts churning the hard drive nonstop like its indexing all the files. This is extremely unusual and suspicious behavior.

Worked fine for me. Didn’t have to install anything. Took a while to download, but everything’s fine.

Looks legit to me

Didn't see any of the described behavior (neither with Chromium not with Firefox on Debian). Did this happen when you tried to download the pack or immediately when opening the page? Anyone else see this?

If someone uploads the file to a legit server, I'll take a look at it.

Nevermind. I updated firefox and that worked

Here's the kicks, snares, and cymbals. (Haven't done toms and hihat). Unzip to the sample pack directory:

I'm not wild about these sounds. Best is the hihat.

I updated the zip to now include the 2 hihats:

Not sure if I'll bother with toms. They're the worst samples in the archive. Undamped with lots of ringing. Use the toms I made instead.

Thanks jeffg. I had a feeling you might have a go at them. I never actually gave them a listen before posting the link. (It was still downloading)
However I will say that I like raw sounds (provided they are sampled properly) Once I get my snare drum back from up north I plan on sampling it and posting it.

The biggest problem I have with drum samples is that often the person records in a small, acoustically untreated room. With instruments having strong transients (like drums), the result is that standing waves and slap echoes in the room produce harsh ringing/phasing that's often impossible to post-process out.

I also dislike ringing from the drumhead. You need to tune and dampen out the overtones. (Start with an oil-filled head, for toms at least. Then masking tape small wads of toilet paper at strategic spots that reduce ringing). But at least head ringing can often be filtered out post-process.

Oh good. Let me have the waves and I'll make an sfz. You don't even need to chop up the wave, as I can do that. Just record at least 6 different velocities, with 4 hits at each velocity. Side stick and rim shot articulations are good to include. A set of brush samples would be invaluable as good ones are rare.

If you don't have acoustic foam, at least put up some heavy cloth (drapes, carpet) around the recording spot. Don't record close to a wall -- stay near room center.

I actually rather like the toms. Is there an easy copy-and-paste way to make an sfz for them?

Really?? You don't find them to be far too undamped and ringy?

I'll look at them later.

Oh I definately agree that they are a bit ringy. But I like the tone of the drums themselves. I'm a drummer and am very particular about my samples. These ones were done nicely and while I don't care for the long ringgggggg on the toms, I do like the natural sound.
I've also mixed and produced for over 10 years, so I know how to handle improperly recorded drums. Lord knows I've recorded mine wrong at least a zillion times before I finally got it right! By the way, THANKS for the awesome SFZs. Anyone know if Synthclone can properly hack a SFZ?

Ok, I did 3 of the 4 toms. If you want the 8x8 tom, use the floor tom sfz's as a guide. I didn't map out all the tom articulations -- just ordinary strike, and rimshot. I tamed the long decays on toms and kick via the ampeg_release and ampeg_decay settings.

I also did a mapping of one complete, medium-tuned kit (medium_kit.sfz).

See if you can send this zip file to the author. Others may find these sfz's useful:

It's a real site and a real personal project I did that I'm offering for free. I just got a message from the guys at Reaper about a thread on their site and began looking into this problem. This was something I did for myself and thought a few people would be interested. Not sure what's going on with the Mega download, so I will be providing multiple download links on the post.

The are 100% raw samples. The idea is for individuals to create their own sounding kit starting from the ground floor.
