midi live setup

Hi,
I gifted my partner a Vortex keyboard and she's very excited with it even unpowered:

she's a professional pianist but have little experience with midi and computers in general. I've used ardour for recordings and played with midi a little bit but never really jumped into midi world.
so I need a very simple and ready to launch setup for live performances (she plays in a funky band). she'll use a little netbook and she just needs to change presets/soundbanks and play, no complex mappings or effects.
I've tried with amsynth and sounds great but i need to manually connect all jack inputs and outputs with qjackctl.
specific questions:
- which Synth? I like amsynth so far but maybe I'm missing other options.
- how to do automatic jack connections? I presume it depends on previous question
- best way to one-click launch? I'm experienced in bash scripting so it's ok if I need to go ninja with command line.
- in alesis docs i've found that this keyboard don't save mappings so I need to remap everytime I connect it. Is there a way to automate that?
any other advice you can give me about midi live setups will be more than wellcome. I promis a picture/video of my girl playing on his first linux-drived gig
