Traktor Pro & Numark Omni Control

Hi,
Recently wiped the laptop and put linux mint on it. I've got a Numark Omni Control, which doesn't have linux support, so I've got an XP VM running (virtualbox) so I can (hopefully) still use it.
Traktor seems to run alright by itself, but as soon as the usb midi controller's plugged in the whole VM becomes so sluggish it's unusable. You can see from Traktor's CPU meter that it's maxed out.
No idea why plugging in the controller would degrade the system so much. I've got Numark's 2.8.17 Windows drivers installed. The VM has 1gb RAM assigned to it, USB 2.0 is enabled and the display video memory is 128mb (so it's not the display that's lagging).
Anyone had any experience running Numark's Omni Control running through a VM successfully? Any advice?
