kxstudio and virtualbox

i'm trying to run kxstudio 32-bit in virtualbox under osx and I'm getting really, really bad latency. Would it be possible to improve latency at all? it's a macbook pro 64-bit with a 2.93ghz core 2 duo and 8gb of memory. I allocated 4gb of memory for the vm, 64mb for video and 2 cpus along with anything else that looked like it'd improve the speed.

I'm also trying to use jack netone and the host-only network to connect the vm-jack to jack-osx and record like that. Surprisingly i managed to get not-unbearable netxruns but the normal xruns are still pretty bad. from your advice I guess what I want to do won't ever work particularly well, but I'll try using a usb soundcard directly with the vm anyway and see what happens, thanks.
