Oldish pile of kit, want distro/app suggestions

Hi folks, pretty much my first posting and (as usual) it's an advice request... I've got the Dell 470 I've just retired sitting spare, along with an Audiowerk8 and an Unitor8, and I'm looking for distro/app suggestions. THe box has a pair of 2007-era single-core 3GHz Xeons in it and 4Gb of RAM, I may be able to sort out 8Gb for it if needed.... yes I know the stuff is fossilised and I hear a lot of hate for Dell, but my experience of their business kit is that it's solid and reliable....

What I'm looking to do: 16-track audio, some FX would be nice and I want some MIDI sequencing, nice if it offered pattern stuff for drums and track-based too...

The rest of the kit pile is a JD800, a Sirius, a pair of SOundart Chameleons (which is why I don't need too much FX, I can always get them to do it and burn back), a Korg EA-1/ER-1 pair and a Bassstation.... added to this is a largeish not stunningly reliable adn ever expanding homebrewed modular synth. Mostly designed by me, and no, I won't build you one, learn how to do it yourself cos you will need the skills from building it to maintain it.... ok I will build you one, per function it's 1000 UKP to build and support for five years, if you want unique stuff designed it's 2000 per panel (plus 1000 per panel after the first one), plus you have to fly me to the location and 4* hotel me for support calls .... panels are 9x3 inches and single function.... really I spend too much time fixing mine to want to fix yours too unless you allow me to retire from my job to do it :-). 25 panels minimum order.

I know the kit is old (and if someone wants to order 30 panels off me I will buy better) but the kind of stuff I do (antediluvian techno and a bit of happy hardcore) jus tneeds a multi-track and something to keep it in sync....

What I'm hoping for is that there's an off-the shelf distro that will do it without too much hassle... despite runnign Mandriva for years, I really have little in the way of OS wrangling skillz (cos Mandriva does what I want or a home desktop)....

Many thanks
