Should I Upgrde from UbuntuStudio or do fresh live install?

Post by peGGi »

Hello,

I would like to install KX Studio. Currently I'm running a dual-boot Ubuntu Studio/Windows (64bit) setup.

The Ubuntu Studio was a fresh install in August and was recently upgraded to 13.10.

I see in your documentation that you recommend having Ubuntu Studio 12.04 as base before upgrading via the repositories - is that still the case? If so, would it be better for me to do a fresh install from the live CD? I see similar threads but none more recent than March of this year so I'd just like to be sure. I should add that I'm happy to move to KDE (as been a few blips with XFCE as well as missing functionality). I'm double-checking because I thought I read (a long time ago) that it's better to upgrade from Ubuntu base than to do a live install.

I'd also like to ask if it is ok or workable to install KX Studio on top of Elementary OS? I know that it's Ubuntu-based but I see that it doesn't use one of the standard desktop environments, so I'm wondering if that might cause problems with some of the applications that come with KX Studio?

Thanks!

ok thank you. i think i will.

when i install the kxstudio 12.04, will it then automatically upgrade the kernel to 3.8 or 3.10, wherever it's at now. i used to have problems on this machine with drivers for wireless and bluetooth on 3.2 or thereabouts.

3.8 is what I'm using at the minute! So that's perfect.

Brilliant. Thank you very much for the advice/info.
