to archive this in ardour, you can use the guitarix LV2 plugs and IR-LV2. Load IR-LV2 into ardours channel output strip and load a IR-file from BestPlugins into it. Set mix to full wet. That wouldn't give you the result you wont, because you need to add distortion before. David use the tse 808 and tse x30 VST plugs in his videos. You can use the guitarix GxTubeScreamer plug, which emulate a ts 9, to replace the tse 808. To replace the tse x30, you can use the GxAmplifier plug.
So the signal chain will be GxTubeScreamer -> GxAmplifier-X -> IR-LV2.
Now you need to play with the settings in the plugs to suit your needs.

This is really confusing to me still. I wish I could find a video of this or something. Can you explain it to me step-by-step?

Didn't know were you get confused?
Are you fail to load any plug in ardour? well, just go to the menu on top, select Window -> Mixer.
The Mixer strip get shown. If you do a right click in the little field above the shown mixer, a menu pop-up and you could select new plugin -> by creator -> Guitarix team -> GxTubescreamer. In the same menu you will find the GxAmplifier-X plugin. The IR plug is in plugin -> by creator -> Tom Szilagyi -> IR. Now, when you have the plugs in the mixer, just do a double click on the little icons which represent the plugs, to pop-up the UI's. In the IR GUI, select Open File, and load one of the Impulse Response files from the BestPlugin packs.
Now you can press play in ardour and adjust the settings in all plugs to your needs.
