Newbie to audio recording

Hello, all. I've been a musician for a long time (bass, guitar, and learning piano), but I'm just now getting into writing music. Thanks to school, I actually have plenty of experience working with Pro Tools and condenser mics, so I didn't start out completely in the dark when, over a month ago, I bought an M-Audio Delta 1010LT sound card, an AT2035 mic, subscribed to Ardour, and got started with those and the instruments I already had. So far I've managed to learn and make 3 songs with Ardour and Hydrogen.

I made this account here to get help with Rosegarden in another thread I'll be posting shortly, and I thought I might as well do an introduction, too, since I'll probably be coming here often.

Welcome to LM JJ!

I don't suppose your nick was inspired by the first track off the Beastie Boys "Check Your Head" album? That's prob before your time but you should check it out as its one of my all-time fave albums and one of the best rap (and rock and funk) albums ever.

The track got its name by sampling Hendrix who was in 'Jimmy James and the blue flames' before the Hendrix experience.

Funny story about that--my parents named me after Jimi Hendrix, but had James be my legal name for some reason. In middle school, I had a teacher who gave me this nickname because of that song, but it wasn't until a few years later that I got into the Beastie Boys myself. So I guess you could say it was inspired by that.
