KX Studio - No Audio

Hi all,
I have an HP ProBook 4740s and am trying to get KX studio running on it.
My main aim is to use it with Mixxx for DJ'ing.
It came with Win7 pre installed and worked fine.
I installed Ubuntu Studio (which I am using on another laptop at the moment) and it worked ok.
I then installed KX Studio from a net boot disc. All went fine during the install with no errors or unexpected events.
However I can't get any audio out of it even simply using an audio player to play out an mp3 to the internal sound card doesn't work.
Cadence seems to be set for the default sound device OK and the player sofware is set the same but I can't get it to make a squeek.
Have even tried playing one of the system audio files from command line. The command runs but nothing is heard.
Volume is set to full etc.
So, am I missing something simple here? I am a relative newcommer to Linux in general.
Is there a simple guide anywhere to set up. I'm sure it must be jack setup that is wrong but I'll be damned if I can see where the problem is.
Any gudance greatly appreciated.
Regards
Clive
