KX Studio - No Audio

Hi all,
I have an HP ProBook 4740s and am trying to get KX studio running on it.
My main aim is to use it with Mixxx for DJ'ing.
It came with Win7 pre installed and worked fine.
I installed Ubuntu Studio (which I am using on another laptop at the moment) and it worked ok.
I then installed KX Studio from a net boot disc. All went fine during the install with no errors or unexpected events.
However I can't get any audio out of it even simply using an audio player to play out an mp3 to the internal sound card doesn't work.
Cadence seems to be set for the default sound device OK and the player sofware is set the same but I can't get it to make a squeek.
Have even tried playing one of the system audio files from command line. The command runs but nothing is heard.
Volume is set to full etc.
So, am I missing something simple here? I am a relative newcommer to Linux in general.
Is there a simple guide anywhere to set up. I'm sure it must be jack setup that is wrong but I'll be damned if I can see where the problem is.
Any gudance greatly appreciated.

Regards
Clive

Wow, thanks for the fast reply falkTX much appreciated.
I agree it must be a setup step I'm missing.
Yes I have kxstudio-default-settings pacxkage installed and the ALSA-Audio bridge is running when I look in Cadence. It's running as Type ALSA -> Loop -> Jack.
Under the driver Tab in Jack Settings the Device/Interface is set to hw:0 by default. I have tried every option in there but to no avail.
As far as I can see that should work for basic playback?

Ah! Now I feel a right chump
I looked at the ALSA MIxer in the GUI but it was by no means obvious that they were muted.
I did indeed have MM at the bottom of the Speakers and Headphone outputs.
Unmuted and guess what??
I can now play music through the speakers.
Well one basic step forward and a great step on the steep learning curve.
Sorry to have wasted your time. I did read somewhere else having googled the problem about the speakers being muted but
a. I didn't realise that the GUI was telling me that they were muted (it's just a different shade of grey)
and
b. I assumed thet would default to Not Muted so jumpoed to the conclusion it couldn't be that.

As I say a lesson learnt.

Many thanks for the help.

This seems to be quite a common issue that is often ignored. :D
Oh well at least I can say I'm one of the herd
