System won't boot

I've just upgraded Ubuntu Studio 12.04 to KXStudio as per the instructions here http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net/Documen ... tu:Upgrade, and all appeared to go well, but when I went to reboot after installing, it gets to 'Setting IRQ priorities' and will go no further.

Fwiw, at the top of that screen is the message 'could not write bytes: Broken pipe'
*starting the Winbind daemon winblind
saned disabled; edit /etc/default/saned

also on a prior screen I get the message 'kam something disabled by bios' (too quick to read properly)

Any help would be much appreciated.

OK, I tried all the other kernels listed in grub without success.
The low latency ones all stalled at the same point, ie setting IRQ priorities.
The generics stalled at 'stopping System V runlevel compatibility'.
I didn't try any of the recovery mode options yet. Should I?

This is a multi-boot Lenovo T410 with Windows 7 and Linux Mint 14 which still boot happily.

What now?

Really?

The integrated Intel HD Graphics have caused me no trouble in Mint or in Ubuntu Studio prior to my attempted upgrade.

I am using Intel HD graphics as well and i don't have any problem on KXStudio 12.04.1, but i did have trouble similar to your kind with Ubuntu 11.10 .Make your own conclusions....

It turns out that the Ubuntu Studio partition was too small (10GB) and in fact was completely full after the upgrading process, which probably explains why it wouldn't boot!
So I enlarged the partition to 20GB and did a fresh install of the 12.04.1 DVD iso and I'm now up and running with my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 working for audio and midi (once I realised it has four outputs, not two).
Interestingly, Cadence tells me I have 12.04.2 installed, which I didn't think had been released yet...

So the moral of the story for anyone following, is make sure you have enough disc space before you upgrade

Ouch, yes. That should really have been more obvious though...

Cool!
