Hello from Down Under

Hello all,
I've been using Linux for a few years now and have recently settled on Linux Mint 13 (Maya and LMDE). My son wants to "lay down some tracks, Dad" and so I've been looking into how to do this. I've played a bit with KXStudio and I do like what I've seen so far. I'm mostly a chord strumming guitarist and sometime ukulele player. I've got a Casio CDP-100 and just picked up a Yamaha CBX-T3 tone generator off eBay. It's from the early 90s, I think.
I'm wondering if anyone here has used one before and could offer me some suggestions as to how to go about changing the internal voices on it. I like the sounds I've been able to hear so far, but my piano will only send channel change data. I don't know how to send the right signals to it to access all the tones and effects on it.
Good to see a forum like this where a person can go to get some help.
Cheers,
Spudlabs
