My second album finally finished!

Post by zth »

I'm very pleased to announce that my second album is finished and online! :D
It's called "Ordinary Day Montage", and it consists of 8 tracks, and is a bit more electronic than my last one.

I prepared a page for this at my new website, http://zthmusic.se/Ordinary_Day_Montage , but my host is a little shaky, so it might not always work. So, if that link doesn't work, you can find the album at:

Bandcamp
http://zthmusic.bandcamp.com/album/ordinary-day-montage
Soundcloud
https://soundcloud.com/zthmusic/sets/or ... ay-montage
FLAC/OGG/MP3-formats for download at Piratebay:
http://thepiratebay.sx/user/zthmusic/

I'm very excited to be finished and to have completed this. Everything was, as always, 100% made with Linux and Linux software. It's also licensed CC-BY-SA. I wrote a bit about the album and what I've used technically too at http://zthmusic.se/Ordinary_Day_Montage , if anyone wants to check that out!

Anyway, thank you for taking your time to listen! I greatly appreciate it!

Yo, zth :D

Bit strange to see someone put up their own album on TPB - perhaps it's been done before but a little strange nonetheless ;)
Downloading it, will comment after hearing...
By the way, OSDK and many other sample libraries can be conveniently downloaded from here (OSDK is under SFZ) - http://download.linuxaudio.org/musical- ... libraries/
Looking for the ideal distro. NixOS?
Newbie composer, somewhat-experienced classical guitarist.
Largely known as HisaoNakai/contrapunctus on IRC and other places.

Good job! It sounds great. :D

Music? Not so serious. Have some fun! :D

It's been done before, good example is http://www.beepbeep.nl/, they used to release everything on mininova.org. Not sure if they still do it.

Thanks! :D

@ Piratebay, for me with a pretty crappy webhost, it's a nice way of sharing your files without needing a good host. However, this time around it turned out a bit messy, so the files are also located on my crappy host now. Hopefully it works out...

Hi Zth !
Wow ! That was fast ! It seems like your first album has been released yesterday... I bought it on bandcamp back then and it is still on my everyday playlist.
OK, let's go for some comments track by track. Keep in mind that this is raw thoughts as they come out of my mind, so sorry if that sounds rude sometimes but I just try to be honest with a fellow musician (not that I have your talent...) :

Intro : it sounds a LOT like "Breeze", is it on purpose ? That's surprising. But at least it feels like home.

It Is Alive : ah ah I can hear you fell in love with the famous progressive house pluck. Nice one but not very original.

Still : Zth original style here, I like it ! Interesting real life sounds popping sometimes.

Come And Play : Wow that one is GOOD ! It is in your own style but it also sounds new. That one justifies the album by itself. Very nice synths and FX which nicely integrates with the guitars. The beats are so glitchy that is very enjoyable. How did you achieved such effects ?

Full Moon : Less breath catching than come and play, but this is a very good lounge track. It has a nice background.

Touchdown Germany : A little bit soundtrack like. Not a lot of variations but easy to listen to.

Circus : The beats are confusing, in a very good way ! It sounds like they have a weird time signature that makes them very interesting ! The whole track is very coherent and very well crafted. Very well mixed. Dj Shadow, watch your back !

Live From Kojan : Same comments as Full Moon

Impressive work, very good album again. Better in the end that in the beginning. Come and Play and Circus are the leading tracks, no doubts.
Everything is carefully balanced and arranged. It sounds very professional and made with million dollars equipments
Well that was just a first listening (from soundcloud) but I enjoyed the ride !
Thanks for sharing, getting the new album on bandcamp is on my to-do list know 8)

Hey DoosC! Thank you for your well-written comments :D Don't worry about being rude, I'm very grateful for any feedback (unless it's only to hurt ;)).

Intro: Yeah! I never tagged that in the title, but it's meant to be more or less a remix of breeze. There's both actual piano audio and string audio in there from the original song. This was an attempt to emphasize this being a sequel to the last one.

It is Alive: Right on the money. I'm aware it's not that original, but I've just been a die-hard Deadmau5-fan for so long that I really wanted to make a song that was somehow reminiscent of the classical synth-plucks he's been using. But yeah, hopefully that's out of my system now ;)

Come and Play: Thank you :D I'd say the corner stone of the sound in this song is that I've automated the fx-buses I used *a lot*. Every glitchy part is with the reverb and most of the delay automated to 0, to really try and emphasize the "stop-start"-feeling I was going for. I'm very glad you enjoyed that, it was one of the most fun tracks to make as it was so different, yet I was pretty comfortable in the instruments used.

Thanks again for your comments! I really appreciate that you took the time to write this down, it's very fun for me to read, and great feedback for me for the future.

Hi !

I'm glad you liked the comments :D I was unsure about posting them...

Also I saw your tutorials they are great and made me want to compose music again, only issue (a big one) is lack of free time :( maybe I should start to work part-time and send my three little dwarfs to the mine instead of school

These are basic tutorials but still useful (basic are important after all) and full of enthousiasm. Maybe if you have more time for that and we get lucky you could write more advanced ones like how you did the glitchy parts in "Come and Play", because I seriously didn't understand what you meant at all about how to set up reverb and delay to achieve that

Never be unsure about that! I greatly appreciate the feedback. How else would I improve! ;)

Thanks a lot, I'm very glad that inspired you! Hopefully I can do some more in the near future. Anything else you'd be interested in seeing? I'm going to see if I can do something about Come and Play!

falktx: Haha, believe it or not, it's not from zynaddsubfx ;) Thanks!

Well, considering you suggested it, I'm gonna make my wishlist ;)
- Come & Play : how you did you do that nice synth sound starting at 0:50 ?
- Come & Play : how do you usually do to give punch and clarity to your drums ?
- Come & Play : how did you do the glitchy kick back effect on the drums starting at 1:53 ?

That would be a good start for more advanced tutorials !

I've really enjoyed this album and listen to it frequently. You did a great job tying everything together into a cohesive unit, something I've never quite been able to figure out how to do with my own work.

Thanks a ton Jesse and danboid, I really appreciate it!

DoosC: Sorry for the super delayed response. Thanks to male (and falktx for the scripts in KXStudio) we can now start getting some screencasts done, as it seems to work great! So now I just need some time on my hands and I can hopefully make some screencasts.

Cheers all!
