carla (ladish) and carla control

two questions:

1) why does it say carla (ladish) when I open up carla in claudia? it says it's L1 so I'm confused.

2) can I use carla control to connect carla to non-timeline via osc? also how?

edit: another note, the carla icon when I alt+tab is blurry.

thanks. another question: how do I automate over midi? i've been trying to control the sidechain threshold parameter in sc3 through both ardour and qmidiarp but I can't seem to get it to work. I set the channel to 1 and the cc# to 3/2 (for carla/qmidiarp cc#s start at 0 but for ardour it starts at 1) but i still don't see the parameter being automated at all.

some more questions/observations about carla:

-whenever i use sc3 (which is a lot) the connection to the sidechain input is never saved. Is there a reason for this?
-whenver I open vmpk (jack midi) carla crashes
-is there a significant difference computationally between opening up dozens of plugins in one carla vs having multiple instances of carla in rack mode?

hm, perhaps it's a hydrogen problem then, because when I reopen carla under nsm/ladish the connections are repaired but not with hydrogen. But I found another problem with sc3: when I clone it the parameters aren't all copied so I have to go in and manually change them again. I think I saw an issue on github that was similar to this one.

I need more detail please...
Crashes on connection? playing notes? sending CC?
carla crashes the second i open vmpk (jack midi), and it won't open again unless i close it. vmpk with alsa midi works fine though.
Having lots of plugins in 1 single instance might help reduce clutter on the desktop (too many Carla windows), and reduces screen paints.
Regarding audio it will be the same as running multi-client though. The single-client mode might introduce latency if you feedback outs to ins.
I see. I'm experimenting with different possible modular setups right now, I may end up with multiple different clients to avoid patchbay clutter (though I'll need another separate multi-cient carla for sidechaining since it isn't 2/2). I think an ideal option for me would be to have multiple channels of single-racks in a single instance of carla...how feasible would that be?

Another issue: when the amount of plugins I open up in carla exceeds the screen size, the window just gets bigger instead of having a scrollbar. This probably wouldn't be a problem if I ran multiple carlas at the same time, but I still think it'd make sense to make the plugin-rack area scrollable.

That's already in the plans, and only did not make it due to lack of time.
But you have the same goal as me I believe - load a carla project (rack-mode) inside carla itself, as a single plugin.
I think that sounds about right... Would we still have access to the individual plugins inside each rack-mode? I was thinking of something that's like having a complete replacement of a traditional daw's plugin section without having to manually connect every single plugin in a channel together.

I know about this one. I plan to rework the main "Plugins" tab interface, so I didn't bother too much with it.
The idea is to be able to select plugin slots (selected one will have a brighter color) and drag and drop them freely to change positions. This is one area that I still need to study though, as I never coded Drag&Drop before.
sounds good! Do you already have a mock-up of the idea?

How about automation via OSC, like in non-timeline-hopefully-soonish? Would that work for all the plugins in the rack?
