You can compile it from source, sure.
This might help just a tiny bit:

Sorry about that about 50% of the time my brain is only half on. I ment ardour 3.1 I asked because I've been running 3.0 since release and really like it. I'm guessing your wondering why I was asking about audacity. Just a brain fart.

I know I installed ardour 3.0 with just sudo apt-get ardour3. Is ardour 3.1 just sudo apt-get install ardour3.1 or would I need to compile it from source is what I ment.
