Hello out there,
I'm using KXStudio with KDE (12.04.1, 32 bit). Everything works quite fine for me, but there is sort of a crackle while playing back sound (no matter if I use a player like audiacious or a source in internet like youtube...). I was experimenting with the jack-settings in cadence (buffersize, periods/buffer, samplerate, realtime on/off, realtime priority etc.), although it isn't a xrun problem, I think. I'm not a total newbie, but nevertheless it could be that I forgot to check something very simple...
Do you want me to provide more information about my system/settings?
Thank you for your help and for the great work providing this excellent software...
And sorry for the double post, I was wondering, if it fits better in the Distributions section.
Jonidas

Re: Crackle while playing back in KXStudio
I presume this crackle wasn't present under Windows or whatever distro you ran previously?
Whats the output of
cat /proc/asound/cards
?

No, with windows it didn't happen. It's quite subtle, you can here it for example with classical music, wearing good headphones.

Re: Crackle while playing back in KXStudio
good hint, but it didn't work. the position fixing didn't take any effect and I couldn't find the /etc/pulse/default.pa, there is only /etc/pulse/client.conf.
any other ideas?
thanks a lot

Re: Crackle while playing back in KXStudio
Unless you've manually updated your kernel, you will likely still be running kernel 3.2 w/ ALSA 1.0.25. You can check your kernel revision by running
uname -a
Check ALSA version by running
alsamixer
I have not yet installed F's newer 3.8 kernel but it should include a newer version of ALSA (which is up to version 1.0.27) which could include a fix for your sound prob so try installing these:
linux-lowlatency-headers-3.8.0-14
linux-headers-3.8.0-14-lowlatency
linux-image-3.8.0-14-lowlatency
Reboot, check your kernel and ALSA have been updated then test for your sound issue again.

Re: Crackle while playing back in KXStudio
Hmmm, I updated the kernel. Now it says:
and ALSA-Version
But the crackle stays the same. :/
Thank you anyway.
Edit:
I realised, that using other players like VLC, the crackle doesn't appear (only while changing volume). in audacious it does. in streaming websites it does, although I have the feeling, that it is more using firefox and less using opera or konqueror (I'm not quite sure about this). Any idea?
