Long time luker; first time poster

How long has linuxmusicians been around? That's how long I've been lurking. That's also how long it's taken me to be able to make music with Linux that I'm happy with. I know other people have been doing it for quite awhile but to find the tools that work for me only just occurred recently. Now I can be a Linux Musician.

What works for me is KxStudio, Non Daw, Wine, and (evil proprietary software) Amplitube 3 and SampleTank 2.5. Unfortunately, Guitarix is too resource intensive for my current system and I doubt there will ever be sample libraries for open source samplers that can replace the proprietary software samplers. Thankfully Wine exists!

Welcome Mr Fox!

I'm glad you're switching to Linux but its sad you're dependendant on wine - although I'll confess I run REAPER under wine (but nothing else). I'd like to think Cockos will start to be more bothered about Linux soon, finish the native Linux REAPER port then I can give wine the boot. Even better would be for Muse to gain the few last missing features I want that REAPER has- see the Muse feature requests page on SF.net. They'll get there eventually I'm sure.

Quality sample sets are similar to video game art - there have been very few commercial quality open source games as it seems most artists are unwilling to put the time in and give their work away for free. Same problem with sample sets although there are a few high quality, free sfz sample sets out there.
