Crackle while playing back in KXStudio

Hello out there,

I'm using KXStudio with KDE (12.04.1, 32 bit). Everything works quite fine for me, but there is sort of a crackle while playing back sound (no matter if I use a player like audiacious or a source in internet like youtube...). I was experimenting with the jack-settings in cadence (buffersize, periods/buffer, samplerate, realtime on/off, realtime priority etc.), although it isn't a xrun problem, I think. I'm not a total newbie, but nevertheless it could be that I forgot to check something very simple...

Do you want me to provide more information about my system/settings?

Thank you for your help and for the great work providing this excellent software...

Jonidas

I've had the same problem in the past.
The way to narrow things down better might be to try recording something in Audacity. Does the crackle show up in the recording? If not, the problem is not in the computer, but in the audio outside the computer.

I did see this bug report that seems to be applicable to the 3.8 kernel.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+sour ... mments=all

It was linked from this thread: http://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic ... 47&t=11108

It may be something to keep in mind.

I am also very happily using USB audio with no problems under 3.8 kernel.

If the OP is using one of the "bad" USB devices, it might introduce another problem. I thought it was worth bearing in mind.
