Hello,
I'm new to Linux and to midi/DAW's. My music background is a music education degree with percussion as my primary instrument. I also have some basic piano/keyboard skills. I ended up going into a different career and drifted away from music for the last 10 years or so, but I've started to get back into playing the last several months. I recently bought a Roland TD-9 V-drum electronic drumset and also have a Roland XP-60.
After doing some research and playing around with several distros through Oracle virtual box and live CD's, I decided to install Ubuntu Studio. I have successfully partitioned the hard drive on my laptop to dual boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu Studio 12.04.2 and I'm enjoying learning to use Ubuntu. I need to buy some midi cables and other gear to start playing with the DAW's and the other great tools available through Linux. I'm hoping to find time to start learning midi/DAW and linux and hope to be able to connect with and learn from others on this site.
