Hi!
I haven’t used Ubuntu for audio work for some time now (switched to Arch), but, as far as I remember, the LMMS version in Ubuntu Studio was not compiled with VST support. There are other ways of loading dll plugins, though. What I suggest is that you should install KXStudio (
http://kxstudio.sourceforge.net) on top of your Ubuntu Studio distribution, it’s a magnificent environment for serious audio work.
At any rate, I suggest you try FeSTige or FSTHost. The former has been abandoned by the developer in favour of a more advanced solution, but it still does its job extremely well. Now, when it comes to Windows VST’s, there’s no guarantee they’ll work well – or that they work at all. It all depends on the plugin in question. It’s worth a try, though.
Post back here if you need any further help with that.

You’re welcome. If there is such a list, I don’t know about it. On the other, hand, there are many variables involved when it comes to Windows plugins, so I guess trial and error is the best approach. FeSTige makes this very easy (although you’ll sometimes get different results with different hosts). Furthermore, I think you should consider this issue the Linux way: since it’s not sure whether the DAW of your choice can actually load Widows dll’s – and you’ll need a host to load them anyway –, you should consider loading the plugins as separate Jack clients and create sends/receives on your DAW tracks. In that respect, ladish provides an elegant solution to manage your audio projects; KXStudio has Claudia for managing ladish studios/rooms/projects.

I am curious now that the new Ubuntu Studio 13.04 Raring Ringtail appeared if it supports in a better manner the .*dll vst's , it seems the new Ubuntu Studio comes with WINE and LMMS installed witch is a nice thing !

According to this page:
http://leblogdolivyeahh.wordpress.com/2 ... -04-beta1/ and the Ubuntu changelog (
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs ... /changelog), it looks like VST support has improved in LMMS. Rariung is still in beta, though, so I wouldn’t recommend using it for serious audio work. Final release is scheduled for April 25, so it might be worth waiting a few more days.
