Minicomputer v1.41 (softsynth - not working yet)

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

It looks like you're running scons with a cached configuration. Assuming common.h is correctly configured, as normal user run

Code: Select all

scons -c
then

Code: Select all

scons
then

Code: Select all

sudo scons install
You can run

Code: Select all

scons -h
to see what compile-time options are available.

You might already know all this. Sorry to be pedantic, just want to be thorough.

Best,

@Smeefer

There is an AV Linux package of miniComputer here: http://bandshed.net/avlinux6-debs/minic ... 6_i386.deb

I built it with Dave's tweaks and on my system here it's JACK clients all show up and there are a variety of outputs to choose from.

Argh! I don't know what's going on here. I still don't have minicomputer outputs, not even with GMaq's AV Linux build. I feel like there is some kind of system configuration that i need to do...maybe ALSA or OSC? I know Minicomputer is supposed to use OSC ports...does that mean it's not built for ALSA/Jack? I get the ALSA MIDI port everytime but never the audio output. This blows me away that it's working for the rest of you but not me. I'm hoping that I can either figure out what the trick is OR that GMaq's build for AV Linux will work after I do a fresh install of AV Linux 6.0.1 when it's released. I'm super excited to try using Minicomputer. If anyone does a Minicomputer video, please post the link on this forum...I'd love to see it in action.

I have this problem when i try running "minicomputerCPU"...I'm not quite sure what this means...

Code: Select all

~$ minicomputerCPU
minicomputer version 1.41
osc port 7770
start
bsize:192000 96000
Segmentation fault

Alright, I just tried running "sudo minicomputerCPU"....sudo is what I needed for some feedback:

Code: Select all

minicomputer version 1.41
osc port 7770
start
couldn't connect to jack server. Either it's not running or the client name is already taken
Jack IS running though, so the client name is already taken somehow. I'm going to reboot and try again.

You're running the wrong binary, just run "minicomputer" at the terminal prompt (it doesn't require the 2-step launch anymore) as normal user. And check htop first to see if you're still running a previous instance of minicomputer.

@Smeefer

Did you uninstall your original source build of miniComputer before installing my package? If not then Dave is almost certainly correct that you have a parallel binary in /usr/bin/ and usr/local/bin. As a general rule source builds from the developers sites will install to /usr/local/ and Distribution packages install to /usr. This means if you build something from source on your own and then later install a package you need to manually uninstall the self-compiled version (depending on the build method of the source code) first.

I have tested my package on 3 different systems to make sure it works and there are JACK outputs on every one so you most likely have a previous incorrectly compiled binary still on your system.

I might need to make a screencap video just to show how baffling this situation is. I'm very surprised to hear that minicomputer working on a computer, but happy to hear it. I did uninstall the source build from the system before installing your deb package GMaq, so that's not it. I checked usr/local/bin anyway just to see, and there is no minicomputer. I have once again started minicomputer with no output ports.

Code: Select all

~$ sudo minicomputer
[sudo] password for smeefer:
minieditor version 1.41
loading /root/.miniComputer/minicomputerMemory.txt

osc port 7770
minicomputer
minicomputer version 1.41
osc port 7770
couldn't connect to jack server. Either it's not running or the client name is already taken
I need to check "htop"?

Ok, i just googled it. I'm installing it now. Ok just check it.

There doesn't appear to be any minicomputer running in htop either. What version of Jack are you running? i'm using Jack1 0.121.3. Is there anything i can check that can possibly give us a clue why there are no outputs showing up in Jack? I will make a screencap video...please let me know what I should check that can provide important information for solving this issue.

Sorry I can't help with minicomputer but, as Dave told you, "sudo minicomputer" is not good because, in general, the jack server and the jack client need to be executed by the same user.

In other words, if you started jack the normal way ("user" runs jackd), "sudo minicomputer" ("root" runs minicomputer) won't find jack running.
