Carla/dssi-vst fail to start VSTs

What other apps and distros do you use to round out your studio?

Carla/dssi-vst fail to start VSTs

Post by Jaaxx »

The vast majority of VSTs I use (actually about 10-12) will no longer load using Carla or dssi-vst from the command line (using command line from Festige.)

Here is a synopsis of the terminal output:

Code: Select all

env WINEPREFIX=/home/jaaxx/.wine VST_PATH='/usr/lib/vst/VOS_Plugins/' WINE_RT=15 WINE_SVRT=10 vsthost 'FerricTDS_1.5.1.dll'

Running UBstudio with kxstudio enabled, 32 bit.

Looks like a dssi-vst issue. I looked around for current bugs in dssi-vst, kxstudio and wine to see if anything applies, but most people seem to be having luck at the moment. Could this be a config issue somewhere?

I should add that the plugins I'm having problems with *used to* work fine with dssi-vst and still work flawlessly with fst!

No go. Fully up to date on all packages and the problem remains. Fst is still working.

Oh and I should mention I am on 12.04, kernel 3.4.0-030400-generic-pae, nvidia prop drivers.

Are we talking about this bug? :

This problem first showed about up around wine version 1.5.16 and hasn't been fixed since then. I hope it will be fixed one day soon.

However, if I start the JACK server, either by running QjackCtl or by starting an application that autostarts it, I can't get regular, non-JACK audio back afterward. Stopping and quitting the JACK server, logging out and back in, and ending and restarting my session don't work. The only way I can get "regular" audio back after using JACK is to restart the computer.

Some setups leave a jackd ghost running, after stopping the server, and quitting qjackctl. Use

killall jackd

to see if that is happening.

Over many years, I find reaper to be the best vst host in linux. I would experiment
with a newer linux, on an external drive. Kernels are at 3.19 and 3.20, with many improvements
over the years, I put Mint 17 on an external drive, for testing new things. it's pretty old, with a 3.13 stock kernel,
but wine/reaper are working well. I use E17 for a lightweight gui.

pclinuxos works very well with fst, and the official nvidia 3D driver is standard.
They have a few cd sized distro versions, or dvd sized, to test as live setups,
and use synaptic, so wineasio and fst are easy to install.
Cheers
