Re: Here's sone music I made
This time I have Some more music
I still have a long way to go with mixing and such but I'm getting better with synths and samples I think. I got some Amsynth and Zyn in here. Who can guess what song I sampled

Nice, i like the Amway track, especially from 2:22. But Mountain Mix is where it's at - really dig this track. I'm not hearing a sample tho...just sounds like synths to me, except for 0:00 to 0:07...sounds like a harmonica or melodica. What are you using for percs, hydrogen?

Re: Here's sone music I made
Thanks for the kind words both of you
. Yeah I used Hydrogen for the Kick and snare on both of those tracks. Thats the sample at the beginning of Mountain Mix. It's chopped up a bit. On country time I used my good old real drumming skills. It's got some weird artificts from pushing it to hard through the limiter though. Hopefully I can get some stuff I made with LMMS up there next.
Re: Here's soMe music I made
Ok I finally got some LMMS stuff up. See if you can guess which ones.

I entered a Beatport remix contest.

I made the track in LMMS then mixed it with Ardour.

Re: Here's soMe music I made
pretty neat. The lows/mids are pretty muddy though (which is always a potential problem really). I like how fat the kick is but maybe it could use a little more high content. I think the chord stabs could be eqd to sit higher in the mix too (in general the mixing can be improved). The drums/percussion may also benefit from some (more?) compression/eqing, I like the phasing on the cymbals (or is that just me hearing things? either way phasing would be cool) but I think they should cut through the mix more. Also it feels just a little slower than I'd like it to be (idk how easy this would be to change since you're working with samples but this definitely isn't the biggest issue, also this might even be remedied by slightly shelfing the highs/mids on the master channel), the breaks are rather strange, and the drops are kind of arbitrary (esp the first and third breaks/drops. I like how unapologetic they are is but it also seems sort of sloppy). Not a bad concept though, it has a pretty nice groove. I like the bongos and samples, they add interesting rhythms and texture, and you did a nice job with the synths (are they presets or did you make them yourself/what synths did you use?) and note/chord choices.aprzekaz wrote:Another New track From Unsound Scientist for no one to listen to.

edit: i just dl'd it to listen to an uncompressed version and it sounds a little cleaner than it did on soundcloud.
Re: Here's soMe music I made
Yes I've been having trouble with the muddyness in the lows/mids in most of my mixes. I'm not sure if it's something I can fix in my master channel (i've been compressing with MDA multiband the eqing with BlackEQ) or if I just need to eq the individual parts better. The phasing in the cymbals you hear might actually be a high synth sound part that sort of goes along with the bass. I don't think I'll be making it faster since I used Ardour with samples of varying lengths to make it but I agree it seems to drag a little. The main bass sound is a patch made on an Arturia Microbrute then multiplied and effected (hence the muddyness probably). The chord stab is a TALnoisemaker preset. Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably try and fix some of these things at some point.tatch wrote: pretty neat. The lows/mids are pretty muddy though (which is always a potential problem really). Here's one made with Tracktion 4 using samples, TALnoisemaker and some other VST and LADSPA plugins.

Hi,aprzekaz wrote:Another New track From Unsound Scientist for no one to listen to.
I really like your stuff, the sounds and mixing is really great! Great to see you learning and using such a variety of applications.
As far as 'no one' listening, this is a very niche forum full of VERY selective people, some will listen and comment, some will just listen and some will listen to a few bars and decide it's not for them no matter how well produced it is. Truthfully if I'm not going to listen to a particular genre of music by the most popular and experienced million selling artists on the planet I likely won't be dipping my toe in to listen to listen to someone learning the ropes on a relatively obscure forum. Never take that personally, your music will always be infinitely more consuming and important to you than it is to anyone else, multiply that by 100 when your audience is fellow musicians
Lat year Dave Phillips and I collaborated on a song that represented the best production work I'd ever done and a truly amazing vocal by Dave I posted it here to the sound of crickets... however at the KVR forum and Soundcloud it went over well... so go figure. Everyone today is completely distracted by the sheer overload of the information/social media age so if you can convince anyone to divert their attention even for the length of one composition then that is a real accomplishment!
The 'quality' and 'worthwhileness' of your music is completely decided by you, what we the listener do is just icing on the cake!
Keep at it! Great job!
PS. Regarding low-end muddiness, almost every mix I've ever done has benefitted from a 3-6 db cut at 250Hz on the master mix, that is where lower midranges of trebly instruments and upper ranges of bass instruments collide in a mess. Cutiing this will often clean up and enhance the bass (similar to the Pultec low-end trick) and help define guitars and other instruments in a similar register.
Re: Here's soMe music I made
Thanks GMaq. The "no one to listen to" line is sort of a joke. I don't take it personally and I agree with what you say about finding an audience in this day and age. I really find joy in just making music and It's great to be able to just put it out there. It's also great to have this forum and I'm often pleasantly surprised by how helpful everyone is. I listened to your Old Pictures song before and thought it was a good song and also very well mixed so I'll surely take your advice about the 250Hz cut. Do mean just a notch? Like something I could do with the BlackEQ?

Re: Here's soMe music I made
I did this the lazy way. Recorded from the keyboard to a flash-drive. Then loaded to lmms to change it from a midi to ogg.
But it's fun anyway. Nothing original just me playing a song.
Just one of many songs you may hear, if your a guest in my home.
