problem with realtime kernel and nvidia driver

Post by chbu »

I have a problem to install a working nvida driver for my GeForce 9400 Gt card with the realtime kernel. 3.2.0-23.
The system is running fine withe the 3.2.0-36-lowlatency kernel. But I have to much Xruns and I think the realtime kernel could be a better solution.
The realtime kernel is starting normal, but the nvidia driver not. The X Server start with a different resolution and nvidia settings told me "there is no nvidia driver load.

Operating System: Linux-x86_64
NVIDIA Driver Version: 304.48

thanks

Well I need those patches too because nouveau doesn't work for me: http://askubuntu.com/questions/232439/l ... plications
So I'll try to hunt them down and see if I can come up with some kind of step by step procedure.

didn't know if it helps for you, but I need to disable acceleration in order to get my nouveau driver behave well.
Therefor I set up a etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-nouveau.conf

Code: Select all

Section "Device"
    Identifier "Device 0"
    Driver "nouveau"
    Option "ShadowFB" "true"
    #Option "GLXVBlank" "true"
EndSection
#
again didn't know if you place it same on ubuntu (debian here)

I have to use the lowest current stable nvidia driver. 304 and 310 both are wacky for me. There is the current stable driver aand the current stable with updates I believe and you have to use the one that's just current stable. It's the first one on the list you can select.

I've tried this to no avail. Thunderbird remains horribly slow while with the proprietary drivers everything is snappy.

Great now all of the sudden my graphix driver is going nuts. Cutting off part of the screen. Was this thread some sort of prediction?

Thanks for all the answers.

edit: I delete my previous post because I was completely wrong :?

I will try to build a selfe-made rt-kernel again.
Last year I built 3.2.30-rt45_0_amd64 kernel, but it was not very stable.

thanks
