QuNeo pad controller (works on linux??)

The Keith Mcmillen Quneo pad controller has 16 pads, just like most pad controllers. However, those pads can control a total of 64 MIDI things...so it's like 64 pads. Each corner of the pad can send its own MIDI message, apparently. I'm wondering how much it can be controlled in linux, or with linux software. It also has 8 pad sliders, a crossfader and other things. All those things are in the form of pads with LEDS and they're supposed to be pressure sensitive. Try search quneo on youtube and watch some videos. It looks like tons of fun and it's not that expensive either. I'm just hoping that it can be that much fun on linux too.
Has anyone used one yet? Tried it out on hydrogen, qsampler, ardour? I'm really curious if I should try to get this quneo or if i'm better off just getting a used trigger finger. If this thing works with full functionality on AV Linux, i'm gonna be super excited about it.

If I remember, I'll let you know in a week or two after playing with one. Much sooner if it doesn't work. I can't imagine it not working though as it is mappable in CoMA mode. I'm totally expecting to manually map everything, but we should be half used to this as Linux users.
Mixxx might, might, be the only usable app out of the box. I'm hoping at least the play and record transports work with Jack.

Thanks! I currently have 8 pads that I use on my M-Audio Axiom 49 keyboard. The Quneo looks like tons of fun, depending on what capabilities it will have in Linux (AV Linux 6.0 in my case). Lemme know how it is. I'm trying to figure out whether or not it will be worth upgrading to the Quneo or just sticking to the 8 pads I use on my Axiom 49. Each corner of each Quneo pad is supposed to be able to send different MIDI messages, so the 16 pads are actually more like 64 pads. If a those 16 pads can trigger 64 different samples, notes or MIDI messages in linux software such as Hydrogen or Qsampler, etc and the fader pads can be connected to volume faders, distortion drive, reverb decay time, echo delay or feedback, etc LV2 controls...then i'll be going nuts with that thing.

I tried the QuNeo on AV Linux 6.0 today. It is recognized as a MIDI device in the Jack ALSA connections. I connected it to Hydrogen. Unfortunately, none of the pads could be used to jam out. I hit pads and nothing. Then I opened A2Jmidid to see if that would work. Still, no results. Not usable in Hydrogen or Ardour3 yet. I've found a few different ongoing linux Quneo software development projects:
https://bitbucket.org/jrussellsmyth/qntools
https://github.com/jnurmine/quneo-linux
I haven't yet figured out how to install either of those. I will keep you updated if I make progress.

What midi signals does the QuNeo send? Use some midi monitoring program like qmidimon, gmidimonitor, even Pianoteq to see what it is sending. When you see what it sends then you can know what to do with it. Something like middings could be used to adapt the signals for a particular purpose.

I have good news. The QuNeo is now working with Hydrogen, jamming on the pads. However, i needed to open the QuNeo configuration software in Win7 (i have dual boot), select factory "Preset 1" and save it to the device. Then I restarted, booted into AV Linux, opened Hydrogen, connected the QuNeo and it works. The links to the two linux quneo software that i posted above are actually quneo configuration software (for changing the presets and upgrading firmware) for linux. The pads work great on Hydrogen...they are very very sensitive (big db differences when tapped lightly and hit hard, or in the pad corners and center). I will give it a try on Qsampler and then Ardour3 next.

Here is a video I made using the QuNeo with Hydrogen to jam out with bird samples on a beat.

Hello,
I am the author of the qnTools (
https://bitbucket.org/jrussellsmyth/qntools) and also am working with KMI on a Linux port of their official preset editor.
Please join/follow the Linux thread on the KMI boards for information and progress. We currently have preset editing fully functional, and I have posted an ALPHA binary on that thread.
