Thanks! Looks good to me. Weird that Qtractor has issues with that manifest.ttl file. When do those messages occur? And the plug-in refuses to load I assume?

The messages come up when I get a new track made and open synthV1. It opens, but I can't hear anything.. I don't get it. I'll try another plug-in and see what happens.

So it loads and you can open it, but is it also activated? And your keyboard is connected in JACK with Qtractor's Master MIDI input port?

Where it says "Master Midi" input it reads "no instruments." It doesn't seem to recognize the keyboard.
And, at start-up the message board still gives me:

Code: Select all

Error opening file /usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/manifest.ttl/manifest.ttl (Not a directory)
lilv_world_load_bundle(): error: Error reading file:///usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/manifest.ttl/manifest.ttl

Now, not only can I not use SynthV1, but Qtractor also crashes!

Remove modsynth-plugins and try again.
I did an upgrade and saw the modsynth-plugins, so I thought that would be sufficient. Qtractor opens again, so that seems ok. But I still get the same error messages about synthv1, and I can't get it to work in Qtractor and Ardour. Either I'm doing something wrong when I make a track (which is a probability) but Qtractor doesn't even show the synthV1 GUI. (I'm dying to hear the presets AutoStatic made for it...!)

Hi falk,
Here's the first result:

Code: Select all

/usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2
/usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/manifest.ttl
/usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/synthv1.ttl
/usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/synthv1.so
The error message I posted earlier, seems to indicate that the system was searching for a directory instead of the file "manifest.ttl" .

Anyway, I did the reinstall. I still get this message in Qtractor:

Code: Select all

Error opening file /usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/synthv1.so/manifest.ttl (Not a directory)
lilv_world_load_bundle(): error: Error reading file:///usr/lib/lv2/synthv1.lv2/synthv1.so/manifest.ttl

also, please try the cadence-carla command too
I did the rm -r command before the reinstallation, yes.
Here is the result of cadence-carla:

I didn't see any text file appear.. did I do something wrong?

Only this:

Code: Select all

brian@brian-kxstudio:~$ lv2info http://synthv1.sourceforge.net/lv2 &> TXT
brian@brian-kxstudio:~$ env | grep LV2
LV2_PATH=/home/brian/.lv2:/usr/lib/lv2:/usr/local/lib/lv2

I assume you're using Ardour 3 beta5 for you instance with Triceratops? I have it working fine in my 32bit install, but not my 64bit install. Also, when you save presets in ardour for Triceratops, a new .lv2 folder gets created in your home directory. The presets end up there. If you want to migrate those presets or back them up, you have to include the manifest file in that directory, as Triceratops will not see the presets if they are not listed there.

I am in contact with the developer of Triceratops. I think you will all like the changes he has coming.

Here is a really agressive test track I made with Triceratops. The drums are From DrMrSampler, and the est is all Triceratops.

Hi dednikko,
thanks for responding. (Nice song! It's always neat to hear how "raunchy" synths can get. They're just the most amazing instruments..)

I don't remember the version of Ardour, I just know it's the latest in KXStudio. The problem is that Ardour crashed when I selected it from the plug-in list. I was able to open it successfully in Carla, but there was no place I could find to save presets, although I'd sure like to! :)
Thanks also for the tips about where to place the presets. I don't know why I'm not having much luck with this synth and Synthv1, but I hope to be able to use them soon.

Keep me posted if there's a modification regarding saving sounds/banks.

AutoStatic wrote:They can save presets. Triceratops comes with some factory presets but as I don't use Carla or Ardour I have no idea how to load those. In Qtractor both lv2 plug-ins work fine and one can save and load presets. For synthv1 I made a little bank a while ago: https://downloads.sourceforge.net/proje ... ts1.tar.gz
Back at my work PC now (BodhiLinux) and I finally could try your patches for Synthv1! Very nice! :) Your patch names are also much more creative than the ones I make! :D

Now if I could only get synthv1 to work on KXStudio, I'd be a happy camper..

Thanks. I should definitely make some more. But alas, every time I want to dedicate some time to it there is a little 2-year old boy that slips up the stairs and then forces me to do the metalhamster song (Yoshimi + Trash guitar patch, Qtractor with Rubberband pitchshifter). While he's banging on the keys I have to yell METALHAMSTERRRRRR!! in the mic. So much for creating new presets.

Sounds inspiring! :D Who knows where a new preset might come from!

IIRC, I used "alien" and "fakeroot" to install Synthv1 on my Bodhilinux PC, since the package on sourceforge is .rpm and not .deb.

I suppose I can do the same thing on KXStudio, right? On Bodhi Synthv1 seems to be working just fine... it even installed into the menu bar! :D

Any thoughts? Do you guys use fakeroot/alien for anything on your PCs?
