Think, it ain't illegal yet
And use Qrest, it won't hurt : http://www.qrest.org
Ubuntu 12.04 + full KXStudio on an HP Pavilion dv7-6c70ef
Usually make noise with a Warwick $$ 5 strings bass hooked to a zoom B9.1ut and an M-Audio FastTrack PRO

I reckon that screencap looks nice!
Dark themes provide higher contrast between interface and content, and dimmer light is less stressful to the eye. I don't know why anyone wouldn't like them?

Re: Future KXStudio theme
I think the theme looks good.
I just can't use it.
I can't see the options such as the "Start" option on the line in Cadence that reads: "Start", "Stop", "Force Restart", and "Configure".
I can't see the boxes that outline or define those buttons--I can't see where the buttons begin or end.
I can't see which options or choices are grouped together.
I can't see things when they are greyed out.
I can't see which tab is active, at the top where the choices are "System", Tools", Tweaks".
I find it difficult to see the connections in Cadia at a glance. I have gone to a lower screen resolution to mitigate this.
I mentioned on a different thread earlier that I had to re-install to get to a usable theme for me; but there were also other reasons I reinstalled.
When I say, "can't see" I should say it's "very difficult to see" to be fair. I find that I have to really look and make decisions and think hard to figure out the UI.
Before the internet, I ran BBSes. I used dark themes for the boards when I had a choice. I agree that the dark themes are easier on the eyes for extended viewing. And I suppose if I made my music in the dark, or mainly at night, I might be able to get used to them. But I have a large picture window in my studio and the light comes in boldly. At night, I use lights that are fairly bright. I just can't use the dark themes as easily.
I have old monitors. I have old eyes.
I don't hate the dark themes; I just can't use them. And for that reason one might say that I "dislike" them. They just don't work for me.
I love KXStudio.
Falk, thanks again for such excellent hard work.
As soon as I can, I'll be making a contribution. As it stands, I have highly praised your work far and wide.

Re: Future KXStudio theme
Yeh of course, some people have accessibility issues (Me personally, can't use a normal keyboard or chair for long - arthritis...) So it's definitely good to have other options available
Hey luster you might benefit from one of the screen magnifier tools like the compiz one? That way you can keep your high-res overview, and get a better look at the details with a keystroke or use easystroke and put it on a mouse gesture. Alternatively there are other accessibility tools like negatives and such... It's worth looking into

Re: Future KXStudio theme
I am open to dark themes. I appreciate the reduced power consumption and glare. I've settled on my own color scheme that is dark gray.
The primary problem I have with the KXStudio theme is lack of contrast and clear delination (similar to the post above from luster).
Quite simply, the current version, it is often difficult to see where the edge of a window is. Several open windows overlapping makes it hard to figure out what I'm looking at. Windows and buttons and menus and everything need to have unambiguous edges. If that can be achieved without the extreme harshness of black and white, then fine. I have no idea how to quite achieve it, but my ideal look is something like as dark as possible while still being perfectly clear where all edges are and having nice subtlety. If any of those elements have to be sacrificed for the other, I sacrifice darkness first.
That's my take. I made my own color scheme recently, see it here:
http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Gr ... ent=155879
I'm quite happy with it, but it's not perfect. Still, it is a good mix of subtlety, simplicity, clarity, and still on the dark side somewhat.

Re: Future KXStudio theme
You might want to consider, as in the theme I made and linked above, having really substantial contrast for buttons. For example, you could have all buttons be lighter colored, more toward medium gray, even though the surrounding area is dark. It's fine for buttons to pop. I don't know why so many themes try to make buttons match and blend in.

Re: Future KXStudio theme
It would be nice if all the GTK/Qt developers could come together and unify the graphical portion of their respective toolkits.
That way, I could choose a widget style and theme and I will get the same look and feel regardless of a toolkit used. Imagine Google Chrome working and integrating nicely with what ever desktop environment you are using.
As if that is going to happen.
Of course, I do like the new look of ZynAddSubFX, which uses a different toolkit compared to Qt and GTK.

Re: Future KXStudio theme
I will never support GTk3 if I were any developers out there.
I would rather be open minded on which theme and widget style I'd like to choose. Personally, I like having a look of OSX style in KDE using Bespin, but I didn't like the look of a progress bar. Of course, to each their own.
