Newbie - No Sound From Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB

Post by philwx »

Hello, I am a musician who is reasonably competent with cubase on windows. But I completely new to linux, so please aim any answers to someone who doesn't understand the os nor the linux music apps. And please tolerate any idiotic questions.

After a few days effort I have installed kxstudio on ubuntu 12.04. I am using the kxstudio low latency kernel.

Currently, all the audio is only playing out of the inbuilt soundcard - I am getting nothing out of the focusrite. I have tried simply playing an mp3. I have also tried importing an audio track into ardour.

What do I need to do to use the focusrite?

Here is the output of:

Code: Select all

arecord -l && aplay -l

Perfect - That did it. Thank you very much.

And if I'm correct in thinking that you are the dev behind kxstudio thanks very much for your fine work. I spent days failing to configure ubuntu-studio but kxstudio seems to be working straight out of the box.

Thanks are all very well but it don't pay the bills. I have just made a small donation to kxstudio using my girlfriend's paypa (claire)l. Thanks again.

I hope your girlfriend won't be upset about that when she finds out! :wink:

I'll wine and dine her with cash.

Anyone, how do I mark this question as solved?

[Problem solved] No Sound From Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB

Post by Carl »

Edit: Problem solved in the meantime. "device 0: USB Audio" was correct in Cadence (interfaces), but to I had to restart Ardour3. I could select "Scarlett" under "Devices" during Start of Ardour3.
falkTX wrote:You should configure JACK first via Cadence.
I see "USB [Scarlett 2i2 USB], device 0: USB Audio [USB Audio]" on your aplay output, so that means it should appear on the jack-configure dialog and simply "just work".
Just make sure you're running with the latest updates, KXStudio updates frequently :)
Hello,
I run the newest and updated version of KXStudio, but it is the first time, I wanted to record a song with microphone (high quality), Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB, KXStudio and Ardour3. Recording from other sources (without microphone) was never a problem.

Unfortunately I did not succeed in recording something from the microphone via Scarlett. I use a Thinkpad Laptop and I could only record a song with the inbuild microphone of low quality.
In Cadence I tried various options in the "Jack settings" (Device) but did not succeed in getting sound from the Scarlett instead of the inbuild soundcard and microphone.
Never I could find an option to choose the Scarlett.

I hope, somebody is kind enough to show the (possibly simple) solution to this problem.

Here the output of my:

Code: Select all

noname@thinkpad:~$ arecord -l && aplay -l
