Greetings from the Island of the Philippines

Post by SajmiraZ »

Hi to all,

Its truly amazing to have discovered this site. I am a musician doing all my work in windows using acid pro and sound forge. I just want to switch to Linux but I don't know how and where to start. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi and welcome

To switch to linux you must first choose a distribution. Suse, debian, ubuntu, slack, arch . . . .
The choose is just a matter of taste, at least all distributions use the same tools for audio/midi production.

The wiki here is a good starting point.
http://wiki.linuxmusicians.com/doku.php

check the newbies entry, that will help you to make the first steep's.

have fun

Hi,

Not always easy to switch to Linux, but we tried to make a bit easier with this forum board, the wiki and the howto section. Don't hesitate to ask, lot's of people who knows a lot about Linux/audio and wants to help you :)

Hi!.. I'm quite new to linux audio too and I must to say that the 'newbies' section and specially the 'system tunning and configuration' section at the LinuxMusicians wiki were essential for me to build a linux audio system.

Good luck! :)

Hey if you are anywhere near Pasig or Manila area, perhaps we could meet over a coffee, i'll bring a laptop/guitar and you can bring your instrument, i'd be glad to walk you through, although im not an LinuxMusic ninja, i think my kung fu is enough to share some basics.. :)
