I like bass. But I think in this special song you shouldn't add a subbass.lilith wrote:You don't seem to like bassbluebell wrote:No.lilith wrote:BTW: Is there bass lacking again in the track? Should I add a sub bass to make the low end fatter?
No.

Sorry, I don't actually have any useful opinions about sub-bass.lilith wrote:Ups, sure.Michael Willis wrote:I think you mean "phatter"lilith wrote:fatter

Re: What if?
Hey, nice!
The extra low end is strictly optional, one could, very carefully, but the mix definitely works well as it is, on big speakers and, importantly, the bass instrument has representations in higher ranges, too, and hence is well perceptible on device speakers or in-ears.
The oneiric quality of the song is carrying over well, and there's an (intentional? involuntary?) bit of humour, too - I at least couldn't help grinning ear to ear at hearing that one voice that sounds like a Yawn Yodel to me in that dream context

Re: What if?
Thanks. The sample came in very late. I wanted to include a poem of RUMI spoken through the MIicrokorg Vocoder, but then I stumbled over that poem.
The yodel sound comes from Helm, I think it sounds oriental almost like a voice.

Re: What if?
Nice find. Do you think it can be considered as being acid or should I add some bleeps and plops?

Re: What if?
Sweet work ! Not my working bag at all but you caught me right away with the instrumental entry, very nice.
Not much to critique musically. I might have liked more vocal samples scattered through the piece, that's about all.
I'm listening on a decent pair of studio monitors. IMO the bass could be more present and needs a little more depth. The drums - specifically the bass drum and the snare - could have more character too, without missing the style.
Impressive, thanks for sharing.
Best,
dp

Re: What if?
Thanks! I try to improve bass and snare and maybe add some more samples too (maybe even replace the samples completely with some Tim Leary samples or so... ).
The kick is a 808 sample and there is really not that much I can do, except completely replacing it.
