MusE 3 Debian Binary

Post by English Guy »

Hi
Does anyone know where I can get a MusE binary for Debian Stable please. I have Googled to no avail; I do not currently have a computer with the toolchain for building from source and was hoping to avoid setting that up. Thanks in advance.

Hi, I've just built the latest source code on Linux Mint 64bit, maybe my binary will work for you too. Shame they don't make this software more available!

I believe that package is broken. It stopped working for me a long time ago. This doesn't really matter to me, but if anyone wants to have a look... https://pastebin.com/LGKfp1qQ

I think I'd rather wait for version 3.

something is not right...

dont download and run random binaries people...

EDIT: the binary won't run as-is anyway, there are shared libs that will be needed, and system files too.
I thought it was tiny too. The extracted binary is 267.5kb!

Edit: Aha, I just tried it on a new build and it's looking for libmuse_core, now it makes sense!.

I see there is a request to Debian in January to update to the newer version:
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugrepo ... bug=887794

I can see is that it is being 'watched':
https://qa.debian.org/cgi-bin/watch?pkg=muse

The best would be to at least try to make our own package and submit ('propose') it, they'll look at it.
But although I was an experienced .spec file and RPM maker years ago, I know
absolutely nothing about making Debian packages :(

So I have e-mailed the Debian packaging team and offered my full help
whatever they need us to do on our side. I'll report back if anything changes.

Tim.

Check out "alien". It converts a spec file to debian package files.

OK I heard back. They've bumped it up and asked me to verify some
'blockages' were fixed (which were preventing them from releasing it)
and that MusE was Qt5-ready. Done.

Hopefully someone will take up the challenge or we will have to try to modify the existing package.
