Speaking of bugs, there may be some issues with having
Reaper's online-version-checking turned on, I had a system freeze solid
when the report of the Reaper version popped up. Only ctrl-alt-F5
allowed rebooting.

As a whole, the linux Reaper and win Reaper-in-wine are very stable,
and a pleasure to use.

Hi all,
just to clarify, is the linux version of Reaper only for use of VSTs that have been transformed into .so files, such as with AirWave?
On my PC it seems to only see those types of files, not any of the .dll files. (Perhaps I need to use a Windows Reaper version for that?)

REAPER for Linux supports it's built in FX and Linux VST2/3. It does not support LADSPA, DSSI, LV2 or Windows VSTs.

Files with a .dll extension are Windows files, and will have to be bridged/loaded by LinVst, Airwave, Carla, etc.

Alternatively you could run the Windows version of REAPER in WINE, in which case it ought to work with the vast majority of the plugins.

thanks for the info.
I gave it a shot using a couple of synths that were modified into .so files with Airwave; performance wasn't actually as good as when using the VSTs with Reaper in Wine directly.. I was getting occasional xruns for some reason.
Still, it's great to see that Reaper is giving more attention to linux. This is really good to see, and the effort is appreciated!

I think it is still worth looking at the pre-releases from the landoleet server - looking at the recent changelogs, it looks as if ALSA midi support has been added, and then followed by various fixes for the upcoming 4.94 release I haven't had a chance to them yet.

It's nearly there, the big missing feature is LV2, LADSPA & DSSI support.

Otherwise it ought to be on par with the windows & os/x versions. But of course it's gonna need a good bug shake out, not that it's unstable in anyways, nor that it's bug ridden. Just the fact that a lot of code paths and user extensions probably have never been tested on linux, and there are bound to be some issues that turn up.

Great to see not only a native linux version, but also linux compatible builds for ARM too (tried it with some of my plug-ins for RPi3 and it all seems good)

@Jack Winter: Can someone please, please make the fonts better on linux as a priority? - on RPi3 particularly for some reason (Ubuntu MATE 16.04) it makes my eyes hurt - there is something very wrong with the rendering, to the point where its not just ugly, its painful to use. Otherwise its great, and I'm sure LV2 or (DSSI?!) etc etc are all good things to have, but that all comes to nothing if you can't read the UI.

Have you installed the needed fonts? IIRC, reaper needs either dejavu or cantarell.

I'll make sure I've got the latest version - from the screenshots it looks better than what I was seeing (mainly the issue was on RPi3, and having tried a few different monitors and settings it appears to be a combination of factors, which just conspire to make the fonts reaper uses look bad. On Ubuntu 16.04 on PC it looks ok. Similarly, on Windows using the same setup its ok, but the RPI3 / ARM version (via HDMI) has something really off with the antialiasing and / or sub-pixel rendering - particularly text in reaper's dialogues e.g. the license / activation pop-up or the drop-down menus). Other fonts (this is ubuntu MATE 16.04 for RPi3) and applications e.g. Tracktion / Waveform or Ardour on the same RPi3 / Monitor combination look fine. Is there any information available about what font rendering engine / toolkit reaper uses on linux so I might make some guesses as to what might be happening (and if this is just unique to my setup?)

That's much better thanks - I guess the default fonts combined with something about my RPi3 / HDMI / Monitor config must have reacted badly. Consider it fixed. Great to see support for Linux, (and ARM Linux / RPi3) progressing so well.
