I'll try it out anyway, but I shall give more energy to alternatives like qtractor.
Ardour 3 wasn't bad, and if anybody would fork from there and make it a policy not to introduce features unless everything else, was a) rock stable and b) fully and accurately documented, I'd be very pleased. I even like ardour 2, imagine, there you can navigate the editor space with most ordinary scrollbars, no more editor windows that zoom when you wanted them to move and move when you wanted them to zoom. Progress is an ambiguous concept - but the really interesting point is that ardour has a very democratic donation scheme where donors can pledge their contribution to specific tasks, so the banal truth probably is that a majority will rather plegde money to feature requests than to a bugfix, let alone donate for something just because it already works, possibly since years.

Not an ardour-specific problem per se, but still different FOSS projects set different priorities.
