Site logo

Post by raboof »

In the thread about a new favicon (viewtopic.php?f=11&t=16766), forum member Jarle iterated on a whole new logo for the site.

I'm trying his latest version on for size (should be visible above, perhaps needs some refreshing), what do you think? Looks nice to me!

Don't know honestly, I think both logos are equally good. Maybe L should be dark blue like text, there are no black color in the forum theme.

The logo is good. But L and M are a bit blured. I think they should have more legible boundaries.
Also current font for "LinuxMusicians" doesn't pass the letters in the logo. I think we should change the font to more passing now.

I'd rather see logo font altered.

Optimized for 50 x 50 pixler to minimize blur in rendering + small edits:

I dig where this logo is going but it still needs some effort. The dark color for the L isn't working. The contrast ratio is too low. Check it. Have you tried a neutral gray, like r:128,g:128,b:128 to see if it feels the same while pulling the logo out from the background? I think it's almost there! It's a pretty solid design.

What typeface did you use? We'll want to overwrite the header's CSS with something more appropriate, as sadko4u suggested.

My wish for a font to use is: Lato (Lato Black, bold) in white. A fallback to Arial for older browser.
Font with similar properties to Latos was in my mind when I drew by “hand” (as in Inkscape) the poster-letter L and M (no fonts was used in the creation).
The letter L could change color, be metal-shining, glowing or anything else. Only reason for using suggested color (dark blue with gradient) is to melt in with the current colors used by the site. Inspired from the headers gradient (if it were continued to gradient even darker) mixed with blue text from the site and darkened.
I can make slight brighter rim (white translucent) around the L to make it stand out more or use another color/surface for it (lots of possibilities, let me know what is wanted).

The main problem is the background of the heading. I never met this color anywhere on the forum. I think the color of the heading should be changed.

Funny how the logo depicts an 'inside the box' thing/think. Reinforced by the bold/brick fonts. And then flanked by 'creating music freely'. There's immediate tension - if not drama - created by the two.

Just my 2 cents, but i think the site logo is fabulous, and it should be the favicon too.
