Re: Linux musicians favicon
just some opinions on Jarie's 1st proposal:
I like the album looking dot but it covers too much of the M to realize its an M. Taking it away completely (Alternative 1) it looses something. I'd just make it smaller.
The M nests well in the L but doesn't that make the banner read "Musicians Linux"? Feel free to disagree.

Re: Linux musicians favicon
A favicon is the image displayed in your browser when you visit a website. If you use a tabbed browser like firefox or chromium there is a favicon displayed on the tab. I prefer lm have a favicon so I can share it on my site using an auto link script I wrote in php based on a url. And with google shared stuff s2 you can auto post the favicon and script it as a link. But, favicons can look nice too. And show up in your bookmarks all nice and stuff.

Re: Linux musicians favicon
Al the elements in my favicon are directly from the current board theme. The gradient comes from the banner (https://www.linuxmusicians.com/styles/p ... header.gif) and the typeface (Trebuchet MS) comes from the banner's CSS:sadko4u wrote:bhilmers's version has a very bad font work and annoying gradient in the center.
Code: Select all
font-family: "Trebuchet MS", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
Lots of other good designs here! Keep up the good work everyone.

Ouch!sadko4u wrote:All icons are not pretty good.
The main reason is because when they become small, one of the letters (L or M) is hard to read.
Jarle's the best idea was with the first try. The only problem is to fix the image to make the M good understandable. All other ideas IMHO are weaker.
bhilmers's version has a very bad font work and annoying gradient in the center.
noedig's version is completely unreadable. Bad idea with stylization of letters as note signs.

Re: Linux musicians favicon
Wow. Never thought that a 'favicon' would be so important. More than assuring level balancing between tunes ?
(Mind you, perhaps there's no such thing as level balancing in streaming, I do not know. Maybe listeners are used to reach for their volume level. Or maybe this is automatically done by streaming software these days. Last time I listened to a form 'streaming', actually called 'radio', was perhaps 14 years ago, it was called Soma FM. The level was consistent at that time).

Or maybe try to put the disc to the background?ssj71 wrote:just some opinions on Jarie's 1st proposal:

This version of icon is much better understandable.

Re: Linux musicians favicon
I'd say using the white note like the actual site logo with its blue background would be the best.
