Studio setup/software /hardware

Post by BrBearOFS »

This might be the incorrect forum.. if so please direct me there..

I am desirous of creating a workstation where I can compose using software like Finale (what I use now on my win-ders partition) and have high quality sound playback ( sounds like the instruments or voices etc) at the same time having a basic recording facility for voice or instruments live.. at the same time budget is also an issue.. so basic set up with room for expansion.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Do you want a notation editor like Finale has, or will a piano-roll editor work for you? Many people are happy with Ardour, but it does not have a notation editor. Some other possibilities that will give you a notation editor are RoseGarden and MuseScore.

What kind of virtual instruments do you want to use? You can choose virtual instruments separate from sequencer software. If you are interested in orchestra, the following article has three suggestions: http://mattiaswestlund.net/?p=971. If you want to use Virtual Playing Orchestra from those choices, this can get you started: https://github.com/michaelwillis/virtua ... r-template
