Any DAWs offer decent editing of wave recording?

Huh? Do you mean the part that you have to import a wave file and after working on it export it?
What's the problem with that?

Nothing except a lot of mouse clicking that would not be needed at all if audacity worked directly on wavs.

Like i said in the same paragraph as you quoted, Not different than other daw's as far as i know. So not an Audacity negativity.

Clearly you didn't try it with MusE then. Since you can open the external wave editor from inside the project it would be much simpler if it worked on the wave file directly, like all other wave editors.

Sorry. I like audacity too much. Too big a fan of it.

I don't argue with that I use audacity all the time
It's just the file format I'm no fan of. Not sure what improvements it gives but I'm quite certain I don't use any features that rely on it.

"Muting" in Ardour:

* Place the mouse above the part you want to remove
* Press "s" key to make a cut
* Grab the edges of both parts and drag them until the part is gone
* If needed fade in and out both parts by dragging the top left or right corner horizontally

Since it is non-destructive editing there's no need to alter the volume, one can simply cut it away.

Sorry for nitpicking, but I only count two steps with Ardour as well - cut and move one edge. Strong point is that a failed or improper placed cut can be edited by d'n'd any time later and fading things afterwards is much easier.

@Beck, Markus' solution is quite effective if you try it. Regarding the "four points to drag" in Ardour, you can do it faster :
1) highlight the part you want to change the volume of
2) switch to draw mode (key "D")
3) grab the gain line inside your selection to move it up or down.
It will auto-create the four points you were talking about.

Thanks Markus for the suggestions, I was able to cut out a section without moving it fairly easily, just a matter of learning enough about Ardour.
