A new version of Helm is out - v0.5.0 and it's got a new patch browser!
You'll have to download it to see what it looks like though
You can grab the latest here: http://tytel.org/helm
Let me know what you think
List of changes:
- New patch browser!
- Added a bunch of patches submitted by Cris Owl Alvarez
- Fixed latency when playing monophonically with legato off
- Portamento now always uses the last note pressed to slide from
- Saving dialog shows up over synth now
- Saving now allows to specify author
- Fixed freeze when quickly loading patches
- Fixed audio breaking bug when first note is played with formant filter on
- JACK inputs are now labeled "Helm"
- Tooltip shows better names for controls
- Fixed setting new parameters with old patches
- Added configuration file where users can customize the keyboard layout
- Added --version [-v] flag for GNU/Linux
- Fixed clipped text on GNU/Linux

Re: New Free Synth - Helm - Now in Beta
I've just updated Helm to 0.5.0. I can see make install copied the patches to /usr/share/helm/patches/ OK but I don't see anything under the Helm patch browser when run within Qtractor.
EDIT
I should've mentioned I've only tried the LV2 build so far. I presume falkTX's (did I just call him that?) previous post indicates he had the same problem?

Re: New Free Synth - Helm - Now in Beta
Yes I can do that. I was silly and was looking for it in a separate class. Didn't realize it was just some functions inside the AudioProcessor class..falkTX wrote:Do you think it's possible to implement the juce api for programs?
cause that would mean they'd be exported as lv2 presets too.
@danboid I don't think these issues are related. The installer puts factory presets in /usr/share/helm/patches/ but when Helm runs for the first time, it will copy these files into ~/.helm/patches so the user can edit/delete them. Do you have anything in that directory?danboid wrote:I've just updated Helm to 0.5.0. Re: New Free Synth - Helm - Now in Beta
In yesteryears, some Native Instruments products having both a standalone
and a plugin installed, required the standalone to be run once, somehow
setting things up for the plugin version to then run correctly.
The Helm standalone started with a populated preset browser, on Mint7 with e17 system-gui
Great to see/hear the Helm getting better!

Re: New Free Synth - Helm - Now in Beta
Mr glowrak's tip from yesteryear, that is running helm as a standalone (JACK) app, has spared me having to copy the presets to my home directory manually so I now have presets available from the browser under the LV2 build. What's old is new.
Thanks glowrak and Matt!

Re: New Free Synth - Helm - Now in Beta
Apologies if this question has been asked and answered before but is there a way to resize or set the size of the Helm GUI? For some reason in both standalone and LV2 mode it's massively oversized on my 1920x1080 monitor (too large to fit on the screen) and I haven't yet found a way to reduce the size.

Re: New Free Synth - Helm - Now in Beta
Helm 0.6 is out so I'm digging up this thread!
You can grab the build here: http://tytel.org/helm
There are a lot of changes in this build including performance improvements, a mixer, a third envelope, a graphical keyboard, and bug fixes. I had to make some changes that might (unfortunately) change the sound of patches from 0.5 and earlier. Sorry if that causes you issues but once the 1.0 release comes out all following releases will have better sounds stability. Let me know what you think of the new build!
Also, if you make some sweet patches, I'd love to distribute them with Helm
List of 0.6 changes:
Performance improvements!
Added a graphical keyboard!
Added third envelope
Reorganized layout and new colors, what do you think?
Replaced oscillator "Mix" parameter with a full oscillator mixer
Added update checking
Added patch changing through MIDI
Added some more patches
Fixed 'zippering' and 'buzzing' with weird buffer sizes and bouncing audio
Fixed portamento still affecting sound when off
Fixed some problems with presets in different DAWs
Fixed automation issues on tempo parameters
Fixed unison phasing at beginning of note
Fixed latency when reverb was enabled
When reopening the plugin GUI, Helm now shows the current patch and folder
JACK MIDI input is now labeled "Helm"
Better starting phases for unison voices
Fixed some other small bugs no one probably (hopefully) noticed

Re: New Free Synth - Helm - Now in Beta
Helm should be resizeable in the newest 0.6 release now. It looks a little blurry at non default sizes, but I'm hoping to fix that in the next release.asbak wrote:Apologies if this question has been asked and answered before but is there a way to resize or set the size of the Helm GUI?
