Audio missing after update yesterday for Firefox, KODI, etc

Post by windeguy »

After an update yesterday to Ubuntu 14.04.3 LTS, I no longer have audio when I play a video from Youtube, KODI, Virtual Box running WIndows, or other video streams.

I can play audio using Jack/Alsa using the VLC player, so it is not my hardware.

Something must have been changed during the update yesterday.

How can I troubleshoot this? This is a big problem for me since I need to use Virtual Box with a program that manages hardware named a Beat Buddy and now I cannot hear my edits.
Also problematic not to be able to use KODI and Youtube.

I have done a reload of Alsa and Pulseaudio as recommended in Ubuntu forums, but it did not help. My volume controls are up, so nothing simple like that.

What is you sound setup?
Is it pulse-audio->jack->alsa, then
you should check what is set as output device in your pulse audio configuration, if you use jack it should be "pulse audio jack sink".

"paman" program can help you troubleshoot pulse audio.

Re-installed KXStudio, but KODI still has no audio

Post by windeguy »

Sorry for the delay in responding. In order to try and fix my problem I did a re-install of KXStudio. I do not have pulseaudio and did not have it before when I had audio with KODI.
I only have Jack and Alsa.
KODI still does not produce audio after I did a complete reinstall.

I am running this kernel:

3.13.0-24-lowlatency #47-Ubuntu SMP PREEMPT Sat May 3 00:00:39 UTC 2014 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

I have started KODI with AE_SINK=ALSA kodi but it does not make a difference.

I solved the problem with no sound in KODI

In KODI, I went to "System", then selected "System" at the bottom of the page.. Then I selected Audio Output and changed the "Audio out device" to "jack". The "Audio out device" had been set to Default(Loopback Loopback PCM). Changing it to "jack" for my alsa/jack setup without pulse audio installed fixed my problem.
