I was perusing the site today. This is a pretty collection! You could also add newtonator, remid, minaton, Rogue, and of course the new helm. Some of these may not be worth it, but I figured it might be worth mention. Perhaps you could have the prettiest/best ones on the front page and have a second page with the rest for completeness.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've added a starter page for Helm and the Calf Organ. Newtonator has been on the to-do list for a while now. Minaton is not being maintained iirc, as Triceratops seems to have had the priority. Remid and Resid are new ones, to me, although Resid dates back to 2009, and so I'd prefer to wait for that one until some new updates are made. Rogue also seems to be stagnant since last year, but I'll see if I can get it running here.

Someone also mentioned Cursynth, but since it was designed by Matt Tytel of the recent Helm, I'm wondering if the latter is intended to replace the former...?

One thing I noticed on the zynaddsubfx some discussion about yoshimi being an improved version. You might read this post from the current maintainer of zyn. I feel that the statement on the site is no longer true.

The embeded players are much nicer than the old links. I do wish it could have a playlist and auto play all on the page, as well as show the title of each track.

Thanks for the compliments, and for mentioning the Zyn/Yoshimi development status. I updated the Zyn page. I probably need to update some other pages too.

As for the audio player... I like the embedded setup better than the links, too. From what I can tell, having a playlist with autoplay would require Java (I could be wrong..) and I want to avoid Java, at least for now. It's true that having a name list would make things "easier" but I like for people to just click and listen, without the "prejudice" of names. I used to be intranced by names, and it only clouded my thinking, so now I use them only for preset recognition. Ideally, nameless patches would be my preference, if it were possible..

I'd be fine if all tracks were named "amsynth-01" "amsynth-02", "dexed-01" etc. Then you could have a random mix on the front page too and people would know which synth the sound came from.

Competition is good, even when resources are limited. Friendly competition
would be even better. Yoshimi work started when zyn work had stopped.

Care to name the 'not so much' coder?
Seems both apps are more enjoyable now,
and I have never thought either was too complex to enjoy using.

This claim is historically inaccurate, please do not perpetuate this myth.

As I see it, the linux community needs synths. So the more the merrier! Of course, having two that are very similar isn't the best scenario, but perhaps the two will diverge enough that each one will be very unique. No sense bickering!
