Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
As standalone it seems to be working well for me. Carla as a plugin doesn't seem to work with Windows VSTs, in renoise it doesn't crash or anything but everything freezes or slows down a lot.

Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
Overall working great. Still waiting on the ability to use MIDI plugins so that I can pass through MIDI into a VST bridged plugin and have it pass on MIDI out to something else, then it'll really be all I need.
Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
It seems jack2 is required to run carla VST, at least apt-get wanted to do this with above command. As a happy jack1 firewire user I'm not willing to change to jack2. Is there any way to install carla VST support without requiring a switch to Jack2? I also noticed that Bitwig also requires jack2 which is rather annoying.

And with the latest carla-git update, a couple of pics of a basic orchestral template, with several Kontakt plugins using Carla's win64 bridge . Currently using 25GB of ram for kontakt dfd, running debian jessie/kxstudio/wine 1.7.33 RT. (with wineasio, and all 64bit)
Thanks Falktx, nice work.

Yessssss ! Thank you for that long awaited (for me) feature. It works.falkTX wrote:Just a heads up, MIDI out is now working for plugin bridges in Carla.
I tested natively (LV2 midi filters) and using IL Mini-Modular.
Let me know if you find any issues.
Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
Great job!
Here is my brief testing result.
Linux Mint 17 64 bit.
plugins using for quick test:
http://requietus.blogspot.cz/2008/12/gu ... lugin.html
http://vst4free.com/free_vst.php?id=709
Standalone Carla works fine in general. Issues:
1. transport panel (no way to restore).
2. Plugin GUI appears in some place defined by DE but imediately jumps to center of Carla. IMHO better to store plugin window position in carxp file and restore display and position next time. This will help to organize plugins on screen. In this case "show all guis" button could be also very usefull.
3. On/off switches are rotary knobs in Carla interface. This is confusing...
4. While I typed this an error messae appeared "Plugin bridge error, process thread has stopped". "Power" and GUI buttons are not working after that.
LV2 version seems not working for me. Loaded in Ardour's audio+MIDI track but only input meter on a plugin is working and no sound. GUI button does nothing. Same for loading LV2 within Carla LV2. I've tried IR.LV2 with no luck.

Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
Thanks for the MIDI support! However, I am running something that should output to multiple channels (regardless of input being single channel), but I'm only seeing output on channel 1. (Mentioned on IRC, just posting here for clarity)
Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
Yes, it's carla-patchbay.
After update yesterday's Ardour session started fine with properly working windows vst plugin. But after unloading this plug from carla plugin bridge stopped working again and refused to load all other plugins (timeout error).
How can I create some informative log to include in bugreport? start ardour in console?

Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
Ok, I cannot reproduce the bug. Seems everything is loading and unloading fine, save/restore works in both rack and patchbay as well as opening presets saved with carla standalone.
BTW I noticed extreme xruns with carla in Ardour when I have loaded some audio tracks. My test case: Loading guitarix in ardour is fine. Loading carla-rack with guitarix inside causes disk speed error in Ardour. Disabled guitarix in carla turned project back to usefull state And here is the log from console after enabling it back

The system is laptop DELL D630 Core2Duo 2.3 GHz with 3 Gb RAM, normal hard drive 5400. Built in audio. Linux Mint 17 64 bit with lolatency kernel. Everything is installed from repos, nothing compiled manually. pulse-jack bridge is running. JACK is running with 1024 samples buffer. Same project with just couple VSTs running outside of Ardour with FeSTige is working just fine with 256 samples JACK buffer.

Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
Hi
not shure this is the right place to post but it seems to.
I was using some windows 32/64 vst in carla-git without problems until the end of december. Since there the plugins loads in carla but when i try to bring up native ui the carla-bridge-win32/64 crash.
for example using last 64bit free version of revalver virtual amp I get the attached backtrace.
with this vst I'm getting a differnet behaviuor in 32/64
the 32 version crashes immediately when i try to load ui while the 64bit one stays up for unpredictable time and then crashes. It always appen when I'm making something on the ui. If I don't touch the ui in works fine.
I saw in the last days some updates on the winxx bridges but this problem is still here.
using kxstudio on ubuntu 14.04 samsung laptop i7
Thank you

Hi,
I want to use VST plugins I received with some hardware. Any feedback on:
- Novation BassStation
- XPand!2
- Focusrite Scarlett Plugin Suite (Compressor, Reverb etc.)
Are these known to work? Are they worth trying?
I am just starting out, and I want to avoid hopeless struggles...

Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
BassStation seems to work, the keyboard panel is there and carla shows an audio level when I press a key. now I have to find out how to get the audio from carla to my headphones, but that's probably solvable
Re: Windows VST2/3 plugins in Carla (revisited)
Just a quick update:
BassStation and the Scarlett suite work fine. I couldn't get Xpand2 installed in wine, it seems to require at least Windows 7.1.
I also tested free (as in beer) VST synths like Proteus VX, Tyrell N6 and Zebralette, they also work well. I didn't manage to install the x64 version of Tyrell N6, but the 32bit version is fine.
